Nicolas Batum's 33 points make him top French player abroad of the week - Nov 14, 2012

We bring you last week's top performances from French who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international small forward Nicolas Batum (203-88, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Portland Trail Blazers (3-5) in their last game. Despite Batum's very good performance the Portland Trail Blazers were edged 112-109 on the road by the San Antonio Spurs. He was the top scorer with 33 points. Batum also added 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 39 minutes on the court. It was Trail Blazers' fourth consecutive loss in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Batum has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 18.8ppg, 6.4rpg, 3.1apg, 2.5spg, 2FGP: 52.5%, 3FGP: 36.2% and FT: 75.8% in the eight games he played so far. Batum is currently a member of the French senior national team.

Joakim Noah

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Joakim Noah (211-85, college: Florida, currently plays in NBA). He was the major contributor in a Chicago Bulls' victory against the Orlando Magic (2-5) 99-93 in the NBA last Tuesday. Noah scored 20 points, grabbed 9 boards, handed out 4 passes and blocked 5 shots. The Chicago Bulls have 4-3 record this season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It's Noah's sixth year with the team. This season he has very high stats. Noah averages: 15.3ppg, 9.4rpg, 3.3apg, 2.3bpg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 52.1% and FT: 83.8%. He is a naturalized American. Noah played for the French national team in 2011. Strangely he has never played in France.

   #3. The French player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Tony Parker (188-82, currently plays in NBA). Parker led San Antonio Spurs to a 2-point victory over the Los Angeles Lakers (3-4) 84-82 in the NBA on Tuesday night. He was MVP of the game. Parker scored 19 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 7 assists in 34 minutes. The San Antonio Spurs have quite an impressive 7-1 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Parker is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his 12th year in Spurs' roster. He has very impressive stats this season: 13.6ppg, 2.9rpg, 7.6apg, 2FGP: 40.2%, 3FGP: 37.5% and FT: 76.2% in the seven games. Parker is also a member of the French senior national team.

   #4. Forward Aaron Cel (203-87, currently plays in VTB United League) led his Polish team PGE Turow to a surprising victory over the third-ranked BC Astana (3-2) crushing them 93-66 in the VTB United League in Sunday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Cel recorded a double-double by scoring 32 points and getting 12 rebounds. PGE Turow Zgorzelec (1-4) is placed tenth in group A. They ended the series of four consecutive loses. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Cel is currently sixth on the list of best rebounders. He has very reliable stats this season: 12.2ppg and 7.6rpg. Cel has a dual citizenship: French and Polish. He used to play for the French U20 national team back in 2007.

   #5. International shooting guard Fabien Causeur (193-87, currently plays in Spain) led Caja Laboral to a victory over the closely-ranked Valencia Basket (5-2) 79-75 in the Spanish ACB last Sunday. Causeur was the top player that evening. He recorded 22 points and had 3 steals in 23 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Caja Laboral Vitoria (5-2) is placed second in the ACB. This year Causeur's overall stats are: 9.7ppg, 2.3rpg and 1.3spg in the six games. He plays currently for the French national team.

   #6. Forward Florent Pietrus (202-81, currently plays in Eurocup) contributed to a Valencia Basket's victory against the closely-ranked Azovmash (0-2) 76-70 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. Pietrus scored 12 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Valencia Basket (2-0) is placed first in the Eurocup. There are only four games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Pietrus is ranked fifth on the list of the best blockers in the league. His total stats this season are: 7.5ppg, 6.5rpg and 1.5bpg. Pietrus is an international player who is currently on the senior French National Team roster.

   #7. International power forward Boris Diaw (203-82, currently plays in NBA) is a teammate of previously mentioned Tony Parker. But that was another game of his team in NBA which we would like to mention. Diaw helped San Antonio Spurs win their game against the Sacramento Kings (2-6) 97-86. He scored 9 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 29 minutes. The San Antonio Spurs have a very good 7-1 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Diaw's total stats are: 5.1ppg, 3.3rpg and 2.8apg in the eight games. He is also French national team player.

   #8. Center Kevin Seraphin (206-89, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA was not able to help the Washington Wizards (0-6) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Seraphin's very good performance the Washington Wizards were defeated in an overtime 100-94 in Boston by the Celtics. He was the second best scorer with 16 points. Seraphin also added 9 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Seraphin has relatively good stats this season: 9.2ppg and 4.2rpg. He plays currently for the French national team.

   #9. International small forward Mickael Gelabale (201-83, agency: Three Eye Sports, currently plays in Euroleague) helped his Croatian team Cedevita win their game against the closely-ranked Caja Laboral (1-4) 76-69 in the Euroleague on Friday night. Gelabale scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 31 minutes. KK Cedevita Zagreb (1-4) is placed fifth in group C. It was his team's first victory after four consecutive loses. This year Gelabale has relatively solid stats: 13.4ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.6apg in the five games. He is also in the roster of the French national team.

   #10. Guard Leo Westermann (198-92, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Serbia was not able to secure a victory for Partizan (6-2) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Westermann's good performance Partizan was defeated 92-78 in a derby game by the lower-ranked Zvezda (#4). He was the second best scorer with 12 points. Westermann also added 5 rebounds and dished 5 assists. It's Westermann's first season with the team. He has averaged so far 9.0ppg, 2.9rpg, 2.4apg and 1.3spg. Westermann is U20 international player who is currently on the French National Team roster.

   #11. International power forward Ian Mahinmi (206-86, currently plays in NBA) helped Indiana Pacers win their game against the Washington Wizards 89-85 in the NBA last Saturday. He scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only 14 minutes. Mahinmi has averaged so far 4.5ppg and 4.0rpg in the eight games. He used to play for the French national team last year.

   #12. International point guard Rodrigue Beaubois (186-88, agency: Court Side, currently plays in NBA) couldn't help the Dallas Mavericks in their game against the New York Knicks in the NBA. Beaubois scored 5 points. His team were defeated 104-94 in the NBA. He has averaged so far 5.0ppg, 2.2rpg, 3.0apg and 1.2spg. Beaubois used to play for the French national team last year.

   #13. Former international forward Tariq Kirksay (199-79, college: Iona, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Asefa Estudiantes in their game against CAI Zaragoza in the Spanish ACB. He recorded 8 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists in 31 minutes. His team lost 68-83. Kirksay is ranked first on the list of the most steals in the league with 2.3spg. He also averaged so far 12.4ppg, 6.4rpg and 3.3apg in the seven games. Kirksay is a naturalized American. He used to play for the French national team four years ago. Kirksay played also for Mulhouse in French league.

   #14. International forward Yakhouba Diawara (201-82, college: Pepperdine, currently plays in Italy) helped Umana Venezia win their game against the closely-ranked Armani Milano 105-100 in the Italian SerieA on Sunday night. Diawara recorded 17 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 37 minutes. Diawara is currently ninth on the league's list of top scorers with 15.7ppg. This year his other stats are: 5.7rpg in the seven games. Diawara plays currently for the French national team.

   #15. International center Ronny Turiaf (208-83, agency: Priority Sports, college: Gonzaga, currently plays in NBA) managed to help Los Angeles Clippers to win against the Portland Trail Blazers 103-90 in the NBA in Thursday night's game. He recorded only 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Turiaf has averaged so far 1.2ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.2bpg. He is also in the roster of the French national team.

   #1. Boris Meno (203-F-83, agency: Two Points, college: Davidson, currently plays in Czech Republic), who plays in the Czech Republic NBL could not help USK Praha (10-0) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the league leader USK Praha was defeated 89-76 on the road by the lower-ranked BK Pardubice (#6). Meno was the top scorer with 18 points. He also added 9 rebounds and made 3 blocks. Meno is currently first on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (second place). He has individually a very good season with high stats. Meno averages: 19.6ppg, 9.4rpg, 1.5apg and 1.1bpg. He has a dual citizenship: Congolese and French.

   #2. Elishay Kadir (202-PF-87, agency: Avi Zilberman, currently plays in Israel) led Hapoel J-M to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Bnei Hasharon (2-3) crushing them 94-68 in the Israeli Winner League on Sunday night. Kadir scored 15 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem (2-3) is placed eighth in the Winner League. Kadir has averaged so far 7.6ppg, 3.8rpg and 1.4apg. He is another player who holds two passports: French and Israeli.

   #3. Robert Dozier (206-F-85, college: Memphis, currently plays in Eurocup), who plays in Spain was not able to help Cajasol (0-2) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Dozier's good performance Cajasol was edged in an overtime 95-93 at home by the leading Zvezda. He scored 13 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks. It was his first game for Cajasol this season. There are only four games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.

   #4. Roy Samaha (205-F/C-84, currently plays in Lebanon), who plays in the Lebanese Division A was not able to secure a victory for Al Moutahed (3-8) in their last game on Friday. Despite Samaha's good performance Al Moutahed was badly defeated 87-71 in Beirut by the higher-ranked Sagesse (#3). He was the top scorer with 14 points. Samaha also added 4 rebounds. This season Samaha has very high stats. He averages: 17.0ppg and 5.5rpg. Samaha has both French and Lebanese nationalities.

   #5. Afik Nissim (186-PG-81, currently plays in Israel) managed to help Hapoel Eilat to win against the closely-ranked Hapoel Holon (3-2) 77-73 in the Israeli Winner League on Sunday night. He scored only 4 points. Hapoel Eilat (4-1) is placed second in the Winner League. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Nissim has averaged so far 8.4ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.4apg. He also holds two passports: French and Israeli.

   #6. Mikael Maruotto (203-F/G-91, currently plays in Switzerland) led Geneve Lions to a victory against the league outsider Starwings 88-78 in the Swiss LNA in Sunday night's game. Maruotto scored 11 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists in a mere 15 minutes. Maruotto has averaged so far 7.8ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.8apg in the six games he played so far. He has dual citizenship: French and Swiss.

   #7. Bandja Sy (203-F, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA couldn't help the N.Mexico St. in their last game on Sunday. Despite Sy's good performance the N.Mexico St. was defeated 71-62 in Corvallis, OR by the Oregon State University. He scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Sy has averaged so far 7.8ppg, 5.2rpg and 1.8apg. He holds both Mali and French passports.

   #8. Experienced David Fergerson (185-G-78, agency: Interperformances, college: St.Louis, currently plays in Switzerland) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Boncourt crushing them 80-54 in the Swiss LNA in Sunday night's game. Fergerson scored 11 points and added 3 passes. Fergerson has averaged so far 7.7ppg, 2.7apg and 1.7spg. He is a naturalized American. Fergerson used to play for Reims Champagne Basket in French league.

   #9. Alfredo Ott (193-G-83, college: Dillard, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Palencia Baloncesto in their game against CB Clavijo in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). He scored 9 points in 18 minutes. His team lost 87-97. Ott has averaged so far 9.5ppg, 1.5rpg and 1.7spg in the six games. He is a naturalized American. Apparently Ott has never played in France.

   #10. Kim Tillie (210-F-88, agency: Priority Sports, college: Utah, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an UCAM Murcia's victory against the 11th-ranked Blusens Monbus 73-69 in the Spanish ACB on Saturday night. He recorded only 4 points. Tillie has averaged so far 7.0ppg and 3.7rpg. He has Dutch and French nationalities.
