The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Lattes Montpellier (8-1) at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by eighth ranked Basket Landes (5-4) 75-69. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Lattes Montpellier. Lattes Montpellier trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 15-10 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 69-75 at the end of the game. It was a good game for American-Dominican Carmen Guzman (172-85, college: UAB, agency: Merit Sports) who led her team to a victory with 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American center Jennifer Humphrey (191-84, college: Kentucky, agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Geraldine Robert (183-80) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds for Lattes Montpellier. Basket Landes moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Lyon. Lattes Montpellier at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Basket Landes is looking forward to face higher ranked Mondeville (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lattes Montpellier will play against the league's second-placed Bourges (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
The game in Mondeville was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Lyon (5-4) played at the court of seventh ranked Mondeville (6-3). Mondeville defeated Lyon 63-52. American forward Amanda Lassiter (186-79, college: Missouri) stepped up and scored 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and Giedre Paugaite chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Danielle Page (188-86, college: Nebraska) with 14 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mondeville have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toulouse and Nantes. Lyon at the other side dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. They share it with Landes. Mondeville will play against Basket Landes (#8) in Mont de Marsan in the next round. Lyon will play at home against Perpignan and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Nantes Reze (6-3) and Tarbes (3-6), which took place in Tarbes. 4th placed Nantes Reze lost to tenth ranked Tarbes in a road game 62-76 on Saturday. Kimberley Smith nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Caroline Aubert came up with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for Nantes Reze in the defeat. Tarbes moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Aix-en-Provence and Charleville. Loser Nantes Reze keeps the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with Mondeville and Toulouse. Tarbes will meet Charleville-Mezieres (#10) on the road in the next round. Nantes Reze will play against Toulouse (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 9: Aix-en-Provence beat Union Hainaut on the road 72-68. Perpignan won against Arras on its own court 71-63. Bottom-ranked Villeneuve unfortunately lost to Bourges in a road game 58-65. Toulouse managed to beat Charleville at home 67-54.


Union Hainaut - Aix-en-Provence 68-72

No shocking result in a game when eleventh ranked Aix-en-Provence (3-6) beat 13th ranked Union Hainaut (1-8) in Saint-Amand 72-68 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Union Hainaut won third quarter 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Union Hainaut 42-21 including a 30-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guard Sylvie Gruszczynski (172-86) nailed 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and Australian center Marianna Tolo (196-89) accounted for 15 points and 12 rebounds. Five Aix-en-Provence players scored in double figures. American swingman Amanda Jackson (178-85, college: Miami, OH) came up with 23 points and 4 steals and Bulgarian center Vera Perostiyska (195-82, college: FIU) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Union Hainaut in the defeat. Aix-en-Provence moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Tarbes and Charleville. Loser Union Hainaut keeps the thirteenth position with eight games lost. They share it with Villeneuve. Aix-en-Provence will meet at home Arras (#12) in the next round. Union Hainaut will play against Villeneuve D'Ascq and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very expected game when 12th ranked Arras (2-7) lost on the road to third ranked Perpignan (7-2) 71-63 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Arras won third quarter 18-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American swingman Angie Bjorklund (183-89, college: Tennessee) nailed 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and Australian center Abby Bishop (189-88) accounted for 12 points and 6 rebounds. Four Perpignan players scored in double figures. Perpignan's coach Francois Gomez used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Bulgarian forward Radoslava Bachvarova (183-87, college: VCU, agency: LBM Management) came up with 20 points and the former international Johanne Gomis (179-85) added 12 points and 6 assists respectively for Arras in the defeat. Perpignan have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Bourges. Arras lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with seven games lost. Perpignan will meet Lyon (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Arras will play against Aix-en-Provence (#9) in Les Milles and hope to secure a win.
