Pene's 31-point game gives him NM1 Player of the Week award - Dec 9, 2012

Amanda Stowe
28-year old guard El Kabir Pene (190-G-84) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Rennes and receives a Eurobasket.com NM1 Player of the Week award for round 13.
He had the game-high 31 points adding five rebounds and five assists for Rennes in his team's victory, helping them to edge out CFBB (#16, 0-12), the league's bottom-ranked team in overtime 85-82. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on the top of the standings. Rennes is placed at 12th position in French NM1. Rennes is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 4-7 record. In the team's last game Pene had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Rennes and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Pene has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (9th best: 16.3ppg) and averages solid 65.0% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Ville Kaunisto (205-F-82) of Blois. He is Finnish forward in his 2nd season at Blois. In the last game Kaunisto recorded impressive double-double of 24 points and 18 rebounds. Bad luck as Blois lost that game 68-91 to the lower-ranked St Chamond (#14, 4-8). Blois managed to keep the same 6th spot in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 7-4 record is not bad and everything may still change. Kaunisto is well-known at Blois and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.5ppg (#1). He also registered 11.8 boards per game.

Third place about best performers goes to forward Damien Inglis (203-PF-95) of CFBB (#16). Inglis showcased his all-around game by recording 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the last round. Despite Inglis' great performance CFBB lost 82-85in overtime to the higher-ranked Rennes (#12, 4-7). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. CFBB can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 12 games. Too bad for Inglis he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Inglis has individually a great season in France. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.5ppg (5th best) and rebounds with 8.5rpg (4th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Corey Raji (198-F-88) of Quimper - 27 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Djordje Petrovic (204-F/C-84) of Orchy - 23 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Jean-Philippe Ludon (200-PF-83) of Cognac - 11 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Bernard M'Poy (197-F-87) of Rennes - 25 points and 6 rebounds
8. Jarryd Cole (204-F-88) of La Rochelle - 15 points and 9 rebounds
9. Justin Reynolds (204-F/C-88) of Vichy - 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Carlos Cherry (184-PG-79) of Quimper - 19 points, 3 rebounds and 11 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
