French ProB round 14 best performance: Steve Smith - Dec 19, 2012

American power forward Steve Smith (200-PF-81) had a great game in the last round for Lille, receiving a Eurobasket.com ProB Player of the Week award for round 14.
The 31-year old player had a double-double of 34 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat St Vallier (6-8) 84-72. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on the top of the standings. Lille is placed at 11th position in French ProB. Lille is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 6-8 record. In the team's last game Smith had a remarkable 85.7% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Lille and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Steve Smith averages this season 13.3ppg and 6.4rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was 29-year old American Pierre Pierce (193-G-83) of Hyeres-Toulon. Pierce had a very good evening with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Of course Hyeres-Toulon cruised to a 83-74 relatively comfortable win over the higher-ranked Rouen (#12, 6-8). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Hyeres-Toulon keeps 17th position. 10 lost games are too many comparing to just four victories Hyeres-Toulon managed to get this year. Pierce is a newcomer at Hyeres-Toulon, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was guard Fabien Calvez (187-G-84) of Charleville (#14). Calvez scored 20 points and passed twelve assists (!!!). He was a key player of Charleville, leading his team to a 102-94 win against the higher-ranked St Quentin (#8, 7-7). The chances of Charleville not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 9 games, recording just five victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Calvez could try to bring Charleville's a little bit higher in the standings. Calvez has a very solid season. In 14 games in France he scored 10.9ppg. He also has 4.4apg, 2.6spg and FGP: 67.3%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Tafari Toney (203-C/F-86) of Charleville - 16 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists
5. John Williamson (199-F/C-86) of Fos Ouest - 23 points and 4 rebounds
6. Vaidotas Pridotkas (200-F-84) of Charleville - 17 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Xavier Gaillou (192-G-89) of Denain - 20 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Tim Blue (205-F-84) of Antibes - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists
9. Charles Jackson (203-F-87) of Pau-Lacq-Orthez - 18 points and 11 rebounds
10. Philippe Haquet (199-PF-86) of Fos Ouest - 11 points, 2 rebounds and 11 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
