Bye, bye, EuroCup... - Jan 25, 2013

Hello, world!

Such a very- long time! Lot of things happened since the beginning of the season, of course. And the most notable one was our EuroCup season. Crazy road trips, unknown places, and a bad second game during the quarterfinals series. Its done.

Weve been to Wasserburg (Ger), Sint Katelijne (Bel), Novosibirsk (Rus) during the pool stage. Our record at the end of the first phase, almost what we expected: 5-1. Not so bad. The FIBA ranking is a weird thing, but it gave us an interesting brackett.

We played Olimpia Grodno, for the eigthfinals. The road trip to Belarus was even more complicated that our 13000 km roundtrip to play Novosibirsk. We won the first leg in Lida by 19. The 7 points loss at home during game 2 was a minor incident then.

Ruzomberok, historical powerhouse of Euro women hoops, was the next step. Game 1 in Slovakia, game 2 at home. Their record is pretty weird: They are undefeated on the road, but still looking for a home win. We knew before the game that it was probably going to be tough: Their team is intense, playing hard... But didnt get the first leg of the series... And on last wednesday night, the statistics didnt lie, once again: -22, we got beaten, and bye, bye, EuroCup...

We now have to stay focus. The first goal of the season was to reach the quartefinals. The other one is to be qualified for the EuroCup next season. Lets go back to work.

After almost 40000km, 5 months and 27 games, we still have a long way to go.

Exciting.

I love this job.

Talk to you soon, hoopsters...

LF2 Round 10: Avenir defeats Toulouse in the closest game of the week - 5 hours ago

Sixth-ranked Toulouse (5-5) gave a tough game to first ranked Avenir (9-1) in Chartres on Saturday. Avenir managed to secure only one-point victory 54-53. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Toulouse won third quarter 14-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Avenir dominated on the defensive end, holding Toulouse to just 5 points in second quarter. American forward Tif...   [read more]

Sandrine Gruda selected the top French playing abroad in last week's games - 2 days ago

Here is the weekly review of the top performing French players, who play currently abroad. This week's number one is an international center Sandrine Gruda (193-87). She could not help one of league's weakest teams Fenerbahce (4-1) in their last game. Despite Gruda's very good performance Fenerbahce was edged 72-69 at home by the leading Dynamo Kursk.    [read more]
