LF2 Round 16: LTB 29 is defeated by Angers - Feb 2, 2013

The most important game in the last round took place in Pleyber-Christ between third ranked LTB 29 (12-4) and fourth ranked Angers (12-4) on Saturday night. LTB 29 was defeated by Angers at home 64-50. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of LTB 29. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Angers's pressure prevailed and they won that period 16-8 extending their advantage to 14 points. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Carine Brossais (185-89) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and forward Sophie Le Marrec (184-91) who added 8 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Senegalese forward Oumou Toure (190-88) responded with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Angers moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated LTB 29. Angers is looking forward to face Pau Lacq Orthez (#5) in Pau in the next round. LTB 29 will play on the road against CFBB in Paris and is hoping to win this game.
LF2 top team - Nice (15-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked SIG (8-8) 74-50. The winners were led by guard Anads Deas (165-87) who scored that evening 15 points and 6 assists and Alexandra Tchangoue supported her with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Nice's coach Rachid Meziane felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 11 points and 8 rebounds by forward Bettina Kadila (186-90) did not help to save the game for SIG. Nice have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 15-1 record. SIG at the other side keeps the eighth place with eight games lost. Nice will play against Limoges (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SIG will have a break next round.
The game in Laveyron supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked COB Calais (13-2) played at the court of 5th ranked Laveyron (9-6). COB Calais smashed Laveyron 94-62 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Laveyron. Kierra Mallard fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 19 rebounds (made all of her nine free throws !!!) for the winners. Elena Vishnyakova produced 12 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. COB Calais have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 13-2 record having just three points less than leader Nice. Loser Laveyron dropped to the sixth place with six games lost. COB Calais will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Laveyron will play against Pau Lacq Orthez (#5) in Pau and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 16 Limoges was destroyed by Pau Orthez on the opponent's court 85-61. Roche managed to outperform Reims in a home game 83-76.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 20 points and 10 rebounds by Mariame Dia of Pau Orthez.


Pau Orthez - Limoges 85-61

Very expected game when 11th ranked Limoges (3-12) was crushed on the road by sixth ranked Pau Lacq Orthez (10-6) 85-61 on Saturday. The game without a history. Pau Lacq Orthez led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Limoges' 42. They outrebounded Limoges 45-29 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pau Lacq Orthez looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Limoges' players. Naturalized Senegalese forward Mariame Dia (185-78) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Forward Laurie Lapeyre (178-82) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. Four Pau Lacq Orthez players scored in double figures. Coach Aurelie Lopez's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Croatian power forward Iva Grbas (188-87) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and forward Lucie Martine Barba (185-92) added 13 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Pau Lacq Orthez moved-up to fifth place. Limoges lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Pau Lacq Orthez will meet at home Laveyron (#6) in the next round. Limoges will play against the league's leader Nice (#1) and hope to secure a win.

The game in Laveyron supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked COB Calais (13-2) played at the court of 5th ranked Laveyron (9-6). COB Calais smashed Laveyron 94-62 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Laveyron. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-62. COB Calais dominated on the defensive end, holding Laveyron to just 4 points in fourth quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Laveyron's 36 and made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Laveyron 39-24 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. American power forward Kierra Mallard (190-90, college: Texas Tech) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 19 rebounds (made all of her nine free throws !!!) for the winners. Guard Manon Sinico (180-85) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. Four COB Calais players scored in double figures. Naturalized Russian forward Elena Vishnyakova (191-78, college: G.Washington) produced 12 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and the former international center Manon Morel (192-92) added 14 points respectively for lost side. COB Calais have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 13-2 record having just three points less than leader Nice. Loser Laveyron dropped to the sixth place with six games lost. COB Calais will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. There was a small surprise in La Roche where ninth ranked Roche (7-7) defeated 7th ranked Reims (8-7) 83-76 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 44-33 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Roche dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Reims' 22. Roche forced 20 Reims turnovers. Guard Johana Tayeau (173-89) fired 18 points for the winners. American forward Nadja Morgan (188-80) chipped in 9 points and 11 rebounds. Roche's coach Emmanuel Body used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Romanian center Anita Meszaros (190-88) produced 13 points and 7 rebounds and guard Emmanuelle Gorjeu (172-89) added 15 points respectively for lost side. Five Reims players scored in double figures. Roche maintains ninth position with 7-7 record. Reims lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with seven games lost. Roche will meet Dunkerque (#10) on the road in the next round. Reims will have a break next round.

Arras Pays d'Artois Basket Feminin (LFB) signed 33-year old domestic ex-international forward Sabrina Reghaissia (188-83, agency: Comsport). It is actually her comeback to Arras as she played here before. Reghaissia played last season at Toulouse Metropole Basket (LFB). In 12 games she had 7.7ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.3apg.
