American Tyren Johnson (202-F-88) had a great game in the last round for Chalons-Reims and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com ProB Player of the Week award for round 24. The 24-year old forward had the game-high 26 points adding five rebounds and five assists for Chalons-Reims in his team's victory, helping them to beat Boulogne (#7, 14-10) 96-88. Chalons-Reims is placed at 3rd position in French ProB. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Chalons-Reims will need more victories to improve their 16-8 record. In the team's last game Johnson had a remarkable 69.2% from 2-point range. He turned to be Chalons-Reims' top player in his first season with the team. Tyren Johnson averages this season 14.2ppg and 5.9rpg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young power forward Chrislain Cairo (200-PF-91) of Denain. Cairo impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Denain was edged by slightly lower-ranked Bordeaux (#17, 5-19) 85-81. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Denain keeps 16th position. 17 lost games are too many comparing to just seven victories Denain managed to get this year. Cairo is a newcomer at Denain and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.
The third best performed player last round was Jamaican Sherman Gay (201-PF-82) of Le Portel (#4). Gay scored 16 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Le Portel, leading his team to a 76-64 win against the lower-ranked Charleville (#18, 5-19). Le Portel needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 16 victories and 8 lost games. Gay has a very solid season. In 24 games in France he scored 16.3ppg. He also has 6.4rpg, 1.8bpg and FGP: 67.2%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Wendell McKines (198-F-88) of Rouen - 18 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists 5. Tai Wesley (200-F-86) of Rouen - 23 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists 6. Anthony Hilliard (193-G/F-86) of Antibes - 27 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Landing Sane (207-C/F-90) of Hyeres-Toulon - 23 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists 8. Tim Blue (205-F-84) of Antibes - 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists 9. James Mathis (200-F/C-84) of Nantes - 23 points and 8 rebounds 10. Julien Lesieu (201-C/F-83) of St Quentin - 20 points and 12 rebounds
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
