Teddy Gipson
The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked JL Bourg (17-7) in Boulogne-sur-Mer on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by seventeenth ranked SO Maritime Boulogne (9-15) 86-77. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of JL Bourg. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-19. But JL Bourg won second period 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Teddy Gipson (191-80, college: Arkansas, agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 5 assists and center Adolphe-Michel Jean-Baptiste (206-79) who added 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was American center Zachery Peacock (203-87, college: Georgia Tech) with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. JL Bourg's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. SO Maritime Boulogne moved-up to sixteenth place, which they share with Maurienne. JL Bourg at the other side still keeps top position with seven games lost. SO Maritime Boulogne is looking forward to face Aix-Maurienne (#16) in Aix-les-Bains in the next round. JL Bourg will play at home against Boulazac Basket (#7) and is hoping to win this game.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Lille. Third ranked host Lille Metropole (15-9) defeated second-best Provence Basket (16-8) 62-48. The winners were led by naturalized Burkinabe Jean-Victor Traore (204-85) who scored that evening 13 points and 7 rebounds and Thomas Ceci-Diop supported him with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Lille Metropole's coach Neno Asceric allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 14 points and 6 rebounds by American swingman Aaron Broussard (195-90, college: Seattle) did not help to save the game for Provence Basket. Lille Metropole have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 15-9 record having just two points less than leader Bourg. Provence Basket at the other side keeps the second place with eight games lost. Lille Metropole will play against bottom-ranked JA Vichy (#18) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Provence Basket will play against Saint-Quentin (#13) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Evreux between Poitiers and ALM Evreux. Tenth ranked Poitiers (12-12) got a very close victory on the road over 8th ranked ALM Evreux (12-12). Poitiers managed to escape with a 2-point win 92-90 in the fight for the eighth place. The best player for the winners was Mickael Var who scored 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was Caleb Walker who recorded 24 points. ALM Evreux's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Poitiers moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Nantes and Evreux. Poitiers will meet at home Chorale de Roanne (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ALM Evreux will play against ADA Blois (#4) and hope to secure a win.
One of their biggest challengers Charleville-Mezieres (13-11) was outscored at home by seventh ranked STB Le Havre (13-11) with the biggest margin this round 88-63. It was a good game for Nicholas Pope who led his team to a victory with 22 points. Charleville-Mezieres' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. STB Le Havre moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Charleville and Boulazac. STB Le Havre's next round opponent will be SPO Rouen (#11) at home where they are favorite. Charleville-Mezieres will play against Nantes (#9) and hope to win that game.
