Netherlands pip Georgia in Almere at the EuroBasket Qualification Round. The Dutch team handed the Georgian side their first loss in Group D after 91:88 success. Netherlands meanwhile celebrated the first win for 1-3 record in the group.
Georgia entered the game undefeated and started with 19-15 lead after the first period. They added 28-24 in the second frame and enjoyed 41:28 at the end of the second frame. Kees Akerboom (200-SF-83, agency: Court Side) however reduced to 47:39 at the halftime and then the hosts started o take control of the game. Robin Smeulders (207-F-87, agency: Court Side, college: Portland) tied the game at 59:59 and Rogier Jansen (188-G-84, agency: Court Side) gave his side 72:70 early in the last period. Kees Akerboom and Rogier Jansen brought the final points from the free throw line and Tornike Shengelia (207-PF-91) managed only to reduce to 3 points at the end.
Rogier Jansen top-scored for the winners with 24 points and Kees Akerboom notched 22. Henk Norel (214-C-87) delivered 12, while Robin Smeulders posted 10. Zaza Pachulia (210-C-84) ended up with 23 points in the losing effort and Tornike Shengelia had 20. Jacob Pullen (183-PG-89, college: Kansas St.) produced 16 and Manuchar Markoishvili (196-SF-86) netted 15.

Defending champion Real Madrid (Liga Endesa) is considering to sign 26-year old Georgian forward Tornike Shengelia (206-100kg-91) who currently plays Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz. Shengelia has played there for the last three years. In 25 Liga Endesa games he recorded 10.7ppg, 4.9rpg, 1.4apg and 1.1spg this season. Shengelia helped them to make it to the semifinals.
