Here is the weekly review of the top performing Georgian players, who play currently abroad.

Manuchar Markoishvili
Manuchar Markoishvili
#1. This week's number one is an international small forward Manuchar Markoishvili (196-86, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA. He could not help Cantu (3-2) in their last game. Despite Markoishvili's very good performance Cantu lost 73-77 on the road to the second-ranked Cimberio Varese. He was the top scorer with 17 points in 25 minutes on the court. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Markoishvili's fourth year with the team. Markoishvili has relatively good stats this season: 10.4ppg, 2.2rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 51.6%, 3FGP: 22.2% in the five games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Georgian senior national team.

Corey Fisher
Corey Fisher
#2. Second place goes to an international point guard Corey Fisher (186-88, college: Villanova, currently plays in Spain). He led FIATC Joventut to an easy victory against the 13th-ranked UCAM Murcia (2-3) crushing them 92-70 in the Spanish ACB on Sunday night. Fisher scored 13 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 25 minutes. FIATC Joventut Badalona (3-2) is placed ninth in the ACB. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Fisher has relatively solid stats: 10.8ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 36.4%, 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 81.8% in the four games. He is a naturalized American. Despite Fisher played previously for the USA university national team, he is currently a member of the Georgian senior national team. Strangely Fisher has never played in Georgia.

Viktor Sanikidze
Viktor Sanikidze
#3. The Georgian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international small forward Viktor Sanikidze (203-86, currently plays in Euroleague). He was not able to help Montepaschi Siena (0-3) in their game against Unicaja Malaga (2-1) in the Euroleague. Sanikidze scored 8 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. The sixth-placed Montepaschi Siena was edged 91-89 in Malaga by the second-ranked Unicaja in the group B of Euroleague. So far Montepaschi Siena lost all three games in the Regular Season. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Sanikidze belongs to league's best rebounders and is ranked #3. This season he averages: 7.0ppg, 8.7rpg, 2FGP: 35.3% and FT: 66.7%. Sanikidze is also a member of the Georgian senior national team.

Giorgi Shermadini
Giorgi Shermadini
#4. Center Giorgi Shermadini (216-89, currently plays in Israel) was not able to secure a victory for Maccabi T-A (2-1) in their game against Maccabi Rishon (3-0) in the Israeli Winner League. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Maccabi T-A was badly defeated 81-64 at home by the leading Maccabi Rishon. Shermadini's overall stats this season are: 6.7ppg and 4.0rpg. He is also Georgian national team player.

Georgi Tsintsadze
Georgi Tsintsadze
#5. International point guard Georgi Tsintsadze (192-86, currently plays in Ukraine) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked BC Donetsk (6-4) crushing them 81-60 in the Ukrainian Superleague in Wednesday night's game. Tsintsadze recorded 9 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals in 32 minutes. Budivelnyk Kyiv (7-3) is placed fourth in the Superleague. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Tsintsadze's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 6.2ppg, 2.3rpg, 3.0apg and 2.2spg in the 10 games. Tsintsadze plays currently for the Georgian national team.

Jacob Pullen
Jacob Pullen
#6. Point guard Jacob Pullen (183-89, college: Kansas St., currently plays in Israel) couldn't help Hapoel J-M (0-3) in their game against GreenTops Netanya (3-0) in the Israeli Winner League. Pullen scored 5 points in 23 minutes. Hapoel J-M was edged 77-74 in Netanya by the second-ranked GreenTops. So far Hapoel J-M lost all three games in the Regular Season. Pullen has reliable stats this year: 12.0ppg, 1.3rpg, 3.0apg and 2.0spg in the three games. He is a naturalized American. Pullen is an international player who is currently on the senior Georgian National Team roster. Apparently he has never played in Georgia.

Davit Maisuradze
Davit Maisuradze
#7. Former U16 international power forward Davit Maisuradze (205-90, currently plays in Ukraine) contributed to Kirovograd's victory against the second-ranked Khartsyzsk (3-1) 73-59 in the Ukrainian Higher League (second division) in Saturday night's game. Maisuradze scored 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Kirovograd (1-3) is placed sixth in the Higher League. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Maisuradze's total stats this season are: 7.5ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.3apg. He used to play for the Georgian U16 national team six years ago.

The list of other players, who all have Georgian passport but never been selected to any of Georgian national teams:

#1. Will Thomas (203-PF-86, currently plays in Turkey) led Karsiyaka to a victory against the tenth-ranked Turk Telekom (1-2) 79-66 in the Turkish TBL last Saturday. Thomas scored 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Pinar Karsiyaka SK Izmir (3-0) is placed third in the TBL. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Thomas averages: 9.3ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.3apg. He is a naturalized American. Thomas used to play for Army Sport Klub Tbilisi in Georgian league.

#2. Quinton Hosley (201-F/G-84, college: Fresno St., currently plays in Poland), who plays in the Polish TBL could not help Stelmet ZG (3-2) in their last game. Despite his good performance Stelmet ZG lost 72-84 at home to the second-ranked Trefl Sopot. Hosley scored 14 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) in 27 minutes. Hosley is currently second on the league's list of top scorers and also on the list of most steals (third place). He has individually a very good year with high stats. Hosley averages: 19.2ppg, 6.2rpg, 3.6apg and 2.8spg in the five games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Apparently Hosley has never played in Georgia.

Superleague Round 7: Mgzavrebi is defeated by Sokhumi - 7 days ago

Coincidentally all visitors won their games. The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Sokhumi (#6) and Mgzavrebi (#8). Mgzavrebi was defeated at home 68-82 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Sokhumi. Mgzavrebi managed to win fourth quarter 27-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sokhumi dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint c...   [read more]
