American center Kirk Archibeque (205-C-84) had a great game in the last round for second-ranked MIA Academy, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9. The 28-year old player had a double-double of 26 points and 13 rebounds, while his team crushed Kutaisi (#5, 5-3) with 17-point margin 87-70. MIA Academy is placed at 2nd position in Georgian Superleague. They are still close to the very top. MIA Academy would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 7-1 record. Archibeque turned to be MIA Academy's top player in his first season with the team. Former Fort Lewis University star has very solid stats this year. Archibeque is in league's top in points (2nd best: 20.7ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 12.7rpg) and averages impressive 58.1% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was young Giorgi Revazashvili (208-C-91) of Samedicino. Revazashvili had a very good evening with a double-double of 31 points and 15 rebounds. Of course Samedicino cruised to a 85-77 relatively comfortable win over STU Tbilisi (#11, 0-8). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the top position in . But Samedicino managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 9th place. 7 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Samedicino managed to get this year. Revazashvili is a newcomer at Samedicino, but is already one of team's top players.
Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Nate Bowie (183-G-86) of Rustavi (#3). Bowie scored 26 points and grabbed five rebounds. Despite Bowie's great performance Rustavi lost 65-76 to #1 ranked Olimpi. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Rustavi needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in . Their record is 7 victories and 2 lost games. Bowie has a great season in Georgia. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.2ppg (3rd best) and assists with 3.8apg (9th best). He also has 3.0spg and FGP: 55.4%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Giorgi Gamqrelidze (183-PG-86) of Armia - 12 points, 2 rebounds and 10 assists 5. Stevan Milosevic (211-C-85) of Olimpi - 19 points and 11 rebounds 6. Zurab Korkotadze (194-F-83) of STU Tbilisi - 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists 7. Gela Kopaliani (193-F-90) of Sokhumi - 11 points and 15 rebounds 8. Giorgi Periashvili (210-C-91) of Samedicino - 19 points and 7 rebounds 9. Keyon Carter (203-F-88) of Dinamo Tbilisi - 18 points and 11 rebounds 10. Vakhtang Kadaria (205-C-89) of Sokhumi - 16 points and 10 rebounds
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
