   #1. This week's number one is an international small forward Viktor Sanikidze (203-86, currently plays in Italy). He contributed to a Montepaschi Siena's victory against the league leader Cimberio Varese (15-3) 89-75 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. Sanikidze scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Montepaschi Siena (13-5) is placed third in the SerieA. It's Sanikidze's first season with the team. This year he averages: 7.1ppg, 5.7rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 60.7%(37-61), 3FGP: 40.9% and FT: 78.8%. Sanikidze is currently a member of the Georgian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Giorgi Shermadini (216-89, currently plays in Euroleague). He helped his Greek team Olympiacos win their game against the seventh-ranked Fenerbahce Ulker (1-5) 82-71 in the Euroleague on Thursday night. Shermadini scored 8 points in 17 minutes. Olympiacos S.F.P. Pireus (3-3) is placed fifth in group F. This year Shermadini's overall stats are: 8.0ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.5bpg, 2FGP: 61.9%(13-21) and FT: 75.0% in the four games he played so far. He is in the roster of the Georgian senior national team.

   #3. The Georgian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Georgi Tsintsadze (192-86, currently plays in Eurocup). Tsintsadze led his Ukrainian team Budivelnyk to a 2-point victory against the third-ranked Buducnost (2-2) 77-75 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. He recorded 12 points and added 7 passes. Budivelnyk Kyiv (3-1) is placed first in group I. There are only two games left until the end of the Eurocup Top 16. So now every game will be critical. Tsintsadze has relatively good stats this season: 10.2ppg, 2.5rpg, 3.7apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 56.5%(26-46), 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 89.7%. He is also a member of the Georgian senior national team.

   #4. Small forward Manuchar Markoishvili (196-86, currently plays in Eurocup), who plays in Turkey could not help Galatasaray (2-2) to beat ratiopharm Ulm (2-2). Markoishvili recorded 8 points in 21 minutes. It was his first game for Galatasaray this season. The third-placed Galatasaray was crushed 91-70 on the road by the second-ranked ratiopharm Ulm in the group L of Eurocup. There are only two games left until the end of the Eurocup Top 16. So now every game is very crucial. Markoishvili is also Georgian national team player.

   #5. International point guard Corey Fisher (186-88, college: Villanova, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help FIATC Joventut (10-10) in their game against Blancos de Rueda (8-12) in the Spanish ACB. He scored 9 points. But FIATC Joventut was edged 69-67 in Valladolid by the lower-ranked Blancos de Rueda (#14). They ended the series of three consecutive victories. This season Fisher has relatively solid stats: 13.3ppg, 2.4rpg and 2.8apg. He is a naturalized American. Despite Fisher played previously for the USA university national team, he is currently in the Georgian national team roster. Strangely Fisher has never played in Georgia.

   #6. Power forward Nika Metreveli (211-91, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) was the major contributor in Omegna's victory against the closely-ranked Firenze (10-3) 81-72 in the Italian Nazionale A (third division) in Sunday night's game. He scored 17 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 24 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Paffoni Omegna (12-8) is placed third in the Nazionale A. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Metreveli has reliable stats this year: 12.8ppg, 9.8rpg and 1.2spg in the five games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Georgian National Team roster.

   #7. U20 international power forward Beka Burjanadze (203-94, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Cajasol (7-13) in their game against CB Canarias (8-12) in the Spanish ACB. Burjanadze scored 5 points. Cajasol was defeated 77-68 in Tenerife by the higher-ranked CB Canarias (#13). This season Burjanadze averages only 1.8ppg. He is also Georgian U20 national team player.

   #8. Center Georges Mdivani (204-85, agency: Promotex, currently plays in France), who plays in the French NM1 (third division) couldn't help Rueil (9-9) in their last game. Despite Mdivani's good performance Rueil lost 69-79 at home to the leading JA Vichy. He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Mdivani also added 4 rebounds in a mere 15 minutes. This year Mdivani's total stats are: 8.4ppg and 5.1rpg in the eight games. He used to play for the Georgian national team back in 2005.

   #9. Former U16 international power forward Davit Maisuradze (205-90, currently plays in Ukraine), who plays in the Ukrainian Higher League (second division) couldn't help Kirovograd (6-14) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Maisuradze's very good performance Kirovograd was defeated 72-66 on their home court in Kirovograd by the higher-ranked Tornado (#4). He was the top scorer with 18 points. Maisuradze also added 7 rebounds (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line). Maisuradze has averaged so far 8.9ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.3apg. He used to play for the Georgian U16 national team seven years ago.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Georgian passport:

   #1. Will Thomas (203-PF-86, currently plays in Turkey) led Karsiyaka to a victory over the 13th-ranked Besiktas (3-13) 70-59 in the Turkish TBL in Sunday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Thomas scored 16 points and added 3 assists in 27 minutes. Pinar Karsiyaka SK Izmir (14-3) is placed fourth in the TBL. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Thomas has relatively good stats this year: 10.5ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.1apg in the 17 games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Thomas used to play for Army Sport Klub Tbilisi in Georgian league.

American Peter Alexis (213-F/C-92) had a very impressive game in the last round for Arena-76 and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com A League Player of the Week award for round 5. The 24-year old power forward had a double-double of 22 points and fifteen rebounds, while his team edged out BC Titebi (3-2) 70-67. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Arena-76 is placed at 3rd position in Georgian A League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost two games...   [read more]

Top ranked Hyundai-TSU (3-2) recorded its second loss in Tbilisi on Tuesday night. Hosts were edged by fifth ranked Tskaltubo (2-3) 80-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hyundai-TSU. The guests trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 2 points. Tskaltubo forced 19 Hyundai-TSU turnovers. 24 personal fouls committed by Hyundai-TSU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was...   [read more]
