Superleague Round 15: Derby game ends with Dinamo Tbilisi's defeat of Olimpi - Feb 6, 2017

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Tbilisi: Dinamo Tbilisi (#1) and Olimpi (#7). Dinamo Tbilisi (15-0) crushed visiting Olimpi (4-10) by 18 points 82-64. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Olimpi. The game was mostly controlled by Dinamo Tbilisi. Olimpi managed to win third quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Olimpi 41-25 including a 33-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international point guard Nodar Gogodze (191-94) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Center Ilia Londaridze (205-89) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winners. Dinamo Tbilisi's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Tre Burnette (196, college: S.Dakota) answered with 9 points and 10 rebounds for Olimpi. Undefeated Dinamo Tbilisi have an impressive series of fifteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 15-0 record. Olimpi at the other side keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. Dinamo Tbilisi are looking forward to face Batumi (#5) on the road in the next round. Olimpi will play against Energy Invest in Rustavi and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Energy Invest (8-7) against fifth ranked Sokhumi (7-8) on Saturday night. Visiting Energy Invest was defeated by Sokhumi in a tough game in Tbilisi 76-80. It was a great evening for American guard Dwayne Lathan (190-89, college: Indiana St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 7 rebounds. Oleksandr Tishchenko helped adding 17 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was center Sergo Atuashvili (223-85) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds. Sokhumi moved-up to fourth place. Energy Invest at the other side keeps the third position with seven games lost. Sokhumi will play against league's second-placed Kutaisi on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Energy Invest will play against Olimpi and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game was also a 39-point surprising road defeat of 4th ranked Batumi in a game in Tbilisi versus Mgzavrebi (#8) 99-60. It was an exceptional evening for Kaheem Ransom who led the winners and scored 27 points and 4 assists. Kakhaber Jintcharadze came up with 19 points and 6 rebounds for Batumi in the defeat. Batumi's coach Davit Ustiashvili gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Mgzavrebi maintains eighth place with 2-13 record. Batumi lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. They share it with Cactus Tbilisi. Mgzavrebi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Cactus Tbilisi.
The game in Tbilisi was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Kutaisi (11-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Cactus Tbilisi (6-9). Kutaisi defeated Cactus Tbilisi 81-66. The best player for the winners was Dragan Tubak who scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Defending champion maintains second place with 11-3 record having five points less than leader Dinamo Tbilisi. Cactus Tbilisi at the other side dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Kutaisi's next round opponent will be Sokhumi (#4) in Tbilisi. Cactus Tbilisi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tbilisi Mgzavrebi.

It was a great evening for American guard Dwayne Lathan (190-89, college: Indiana St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 7 rebounds. Power forward Oleksandr Tishchenko (205-89) helped adding 17 points and 4 assists. An interesting game was also a 39-point surprising road defeat of 4th ranked Batumi in a game in Tbilisi versus Mgzavrebi (#8) 99-60. The game without a history. Mgzavrebi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Batumi to just 7 points in third and fourth quarters. Mgzavrebi dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Batumi's 40. Mgzavrebi forced 20 Batumi turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Batumi's players. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Kaheem Ransom (185, college: Sam Houston St.) who led the winners and scored 27 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import center Reggie Murphy (208-91, college: Henderson St.) accounted for 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Five Mgzavrebi players scored in double figures.
