A League Round 4: DELTA lose their first game against BC Titebi - Feb 16, 2017

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of DELTA (3-1) at the home court on Tuesday night. Hosts were edged by BC Titebi (3-1) 67-66. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of DELTA. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 16-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. BC Titebi dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to DELTA's 30. Americans were the main players on the court. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Ryan Aaron (190-91, college: S.Nazarene) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals and forward Nate Drayton (203-91, college: W.Texas A&M) who added 16 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Deondre Ray (196, college: Cameron) responded with 18 points and 8 rebounds. BC Titebi keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Hyundai-TSU and DELTA. BC Titebi is looking forward to face Arena-76 (#4) in the next round. DELTA will play against SEU Tbilisi and is hoping to win this game.

Even 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists by American guard Rodnerius Lewis (193-93, college: Stillman) did not help to save the game for Arena-76. Hyundai-TSU (3-1) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with BC Titebi and DELTA. Newly promoted Arena-76 dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. Hyundai-TSU will play against Tskaltubo (#5) at home in the next round. Arena-76 will play against BC Titebi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

SEU Tbilisi's coach Lasha Edzgveradze rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Tskaltubo (1-3) left bottom position moving up to fifth place. It was SEU Tbilisi's fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Tskaltubo will meet league's leader Hyundai-TSU in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. SEU Tbilisi will play against the league's second-placed DELTA (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

The most impressive stats of the last round was 12 points and 14 rebounds by Peter Alexis of Arena-76.

Arena-76 - Hyundai-TSU 62-67

Very significant was Hyundai-TSU's (#4) 67-62 road victory against one of their biggest challengers Arena-76. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Arena-76. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It looked good early as Arena-76 took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Hyundai-TSU had a 20-14 second period charge getting the lead and Arena-76 was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-67. Hyundai-TSU dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Arena-76's 28. Hyundai-TSU forced 24 Arena-76 turnovers. The winners were led by South African center Christopher Gabriel (210-88, college: San Diego) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and power forward George Korsantia (203-98) supported him with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Gabriel is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Hyundai-TSU players scored in double figures. Even 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists by American guard Rodnerius Lewis (193-93, college: Stillman) did not help to save the game for Arena-76. His fellow American import power forward Peter Alexis (213-92, college: Philadelphia) added 12 points and 14 rebounds for lost side. Hyundai-TSU (3-1) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with BC Titebi and DELTA. Newly promoted Arena-76 dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. Hyundai-TSU will play against Tskaltubo (#5) at home in the next round. Arena-76 will play against BC Titebi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Tskaltubo has registered their first victory this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat SEU Tbilisi (0-4) 99-94 on Tuesday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tskaltubo made 8 blocks. American forward Travante Williams (197-93, college: Alaska-Fairb., agency: Duran International) fired a double-double by scoring 48 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds for the winners. Uzbekistani center Dmitry Sviridov (212-85) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists. American point guard Jamal Wilson (195-90, college: Rhode Island) produced 41 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and the former international center Richard Matiashvili (207-89, agency: Aspire Sports) added 11 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals respectively for lost side.
