Here is the weekly review of the top performing Georgian players, who play currently abroad.


Richard Hickman

   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Richard Hickman (189-85, college: NC-Greensboro, currently plays in Italy). He was the major contributor in a Armani Milano's victory against the fifth-ranked Banco di Srd (12-10) 82-75 in the Italian Serie A in Sunday night's game. Hickman recorded 17 points and added 4 passes in 27 minutes on the court. EA7 Emporio Armani Milano (19-3) is placed first in the Serie A. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. It's Hickman's first season with the team. This year he averages: 9.9ppg, 2.8rpg, 2.8apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 54.8%, 3FGP: 42.0% and FT: 68.5% in 17 games he played so far. Hickman is a naturalized American. He played for the Georgian senior national team three years ago. Strangely Hickman has never played in Georgia.

Marquez Haynes

   #2. Second place goes to former international point guard Marquez Haynes (191-86, college: Texas Arlington, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). He led his Italian team Umana Venezia to a victory over the closely-ranked Scandone AV (10-4) 72-68 in the Basketball Champions League last Wednesday. Haynes was MVP of the game. He scored 16 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Umana Reyer Venezia (9-5) is placed third in group B. Haynes' overall stats this season are: 8.4ppg, 2.0rpg, 4.2apg, 2FGP: 44.3%, 3FGP: 24.0% and FT: 84.6%. He is a naturalized American. Haynes played for the Georgian national team in 2011. Apparently he has never played in Georgia.

Michael Dixon

   #3. The Georgian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Michael Dixon (186-90, agency: Diamond Sports, college: Memphis, currently plays in Greece). Dixon could not help AEK Athens (16-5) in their last game. Despite his good performance AEK Athens lost 63-70 in a derby game to the leading Olympiacos. Dixon was the top scorer with 14 points. He also added 4 rebounds in 25 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Dixon's third season in pro basketball. Dixon has relatively good stats this year: 12.7ppg, 2.5rpg, 2.3apg, 1.1spg, 3FGP: 31.6% and FT: 73.1% in 20 games. He is a naturalized American. Dixon is also a member of the Georgian senior national team. Interesting that he has never played in Georgia.

   #4. Forward Tornike Shengelia (206-91, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Baskonia in their game against La ICL Manresa (4-19) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Despite his good performance in Sunday night's game Shengelia was the top scorer with 12 points. This season Shengelia has relatively solid stats: 10.1ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.4apg and 1.2spg. He is also Georgian national team player.

Corey Fisher

   #5. Former international point guard Corey Fisher (186-88, college: Villanova, currently plays in Lithuania) was the main contributor in a Lietuvos rytas' victory against the eighth-ranked Dzukija (7-19) 76-72 in the Lithuanian LKL last Saturday. Fisher was the best player in that game. He scored 17 points, grabbed 4 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 4 balls in 29 minutes. Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (18-8) is placed third in the LKL. This year Fisher's overall stats are: 8.7ppg, 2.2rpg and 3.5apg in 26 games. He is a naturalized American. Despite Fisher played previously for the USA university national team, he is currently in the Georgian national team roster. However Fisher has never played in Georgia.

   #6. Guard Duda Sanadze (196-92, college: San Diego, currently plays in Slovenia) contributed to a KK Primorska's victory against the closely-ranked Terme Olimia (6-16) 83-75 in the Slovenian Liga Nova KBM in Wednesday night's game. He was the top player that evening. Sanadze recorded 22 points in 28 minutes; not bad, considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. Sixt Primorska (12-10) is placed seventh in the Liga Nova KBM. The Regular Season already ended. Sanadze has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.1ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1spg in 21 games. Sanadze is an international player who is currently on the senior Georgian National Team roster.

Zaza Pachulia

   #7. An experienced international center Zaza Pachulia (211-84, currently plays in NBA) was not able to secure a victory for the Golden State Warriors (53-14) in their game against the San Antonio Spurs (52-14) in the NBA. Despite his good performance last Saturday He recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 12 rebounds. Pachulia's total stats this season are: 6.4ppg, 5.9rpg and 2.0apg. He is also Georgian national team player.

   #8. Center Giorgi Shermadini (217-89, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Andorra (11-11) in their game against UCAM Murcia (8-15) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Despite his good performance in Sunday night's game Shermadini was the top scorer with 12 points. He also added 4 rebounds. Shermadini has reliable stats this season: 14.9ppg and 7.6rpg. He plays currently for the Georgian national team.

Former international point guard Taurean Green (183-85, college: Florida, currently plays in Israel) couldn't help Bnei Hasharon (13-9) in their game against Maccabi Ashdod (8-14) in the Israeli Winner League. Green recorded 8 points and added 5 passes in 22 minutes. Bnei Hasharon was crushed 94-70 on the road by the one of league's weakest teams (#11) Maccabi Ashdod. The Regular Season already ended. Green's stats this year are: 13.3ppg, 2.5rpg, 4.2apg and 1.4spg in 22 games. He is a naturalized American. Green used to play for the Georgian national team seven years ago.

   #10. Point guard Jacob Pullen (184-89, college: Kansas St., currently plays in EuroCup) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Khimky (4-2) in their game against Valencia Basket (6-0) in the Eurocup. Pullen scored 7 points. Khimky was badly defeated 92-76 in Valencia by the leading Basket. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. Pullen averaged so far 10.3ppg, 1.2rpg, 2.5apg and 1.1spg. He is a naturalized American. Pullen is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Georgian senior national team.

   #11. International power forward Beka Burjanadze (201-94, currently plays in Spain) is a teammate of previously mentioned Giorgi Shermadini and both played together in the last Spanish Liga Endesa game. Burjanadze couldn't help Andorra in their game against UCAM Murcia. He scored 9 points (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line) in 18 minutes. His team was crushed by 24 points 77-53. Burjanadze averaged so far 10.2ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.1apg in 22 games. He plays currently for the Georgian national team.

   #12. International center Giorgi Sharabidze (210-90, agency: Mansfield and Associates, currently plays in Balkan League) couldn't help Feni Industries in their game against Teodo Tivat in the Balkan League. Despite his very good performance last Tuesday Sharabidze was the top scorer with 14 points. He also added 5 rebounds. Sharabidze averaged so far 11.5ppg, 6.4rpg and 1.3apg. He is also in the roster of the Georgian national team.

   #13. U18 international power forward Goga Bitadze (210-99, currently plays in Serbia) couldn't help Smederevo in their game against Beovuk 72 in the Serbian KLS. Bitadze scored 7 points and blocked 3 shots in 23 minutes. His team lost 67-71. Bitadze averaged so far 10.2ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.2bpg in 14 games. He is also Georgian U18 national team player.

   #14. Former U20 international center Shota Gelazonia (205-94, currently plays in Spain) helped Cambados win their game against the tenth-ranked Alcazar 94-77 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Saturday night's game. Gelazonia scored 8 points. Gelazonia's total stats this season are: 9.3ppg and 4.9rpg. He used to play for the Georgian U20 national team back in 2013.

   #15. Former international power forward Akaki Dvalishvili (207-91, currently plays in Russia) managed to help BC Novosybirsk in a victory against the eighth-ranked Kupol-Rodniki 69-64 in the Russian Superleague 1 (second division) last Tuesday. Dvalishvili scored only 4 points in 7 minutes on the court. This year Dvalishvili's total stats are: 5.9ppg and 3.0rpg in 23 games. He used to play for the Georgian national team three years ago.

   #1. Will Thomas (203-PF-86, agency: Two Points, currently plays in EuroCup) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Khimky (4-2) 92-76 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. He scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Valencia Basket (6-0) is placed first in the Eurocup. So far his team won all six games in the Quarter-Finals. Thomas' total stats this season are: 6.2ppg and 4.8rpg. He is a naturalized American. Thomas used to play for Army Sport Klub Tbilisi in Georgian league.

   #2. Guillermo Diaz (188-G-85, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Argentina) led San Lorenzo to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked La Union (9-22) crushing them 88-64 in the Argentinian LigaA on Saturday night. Diaz scored 12 points in 25 minutes. San Lorenzo de Almagra (27-11) is placed first in Sur group. Diaz has reliable stats this year: 10.8ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.0apg in 27 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Georgian and Puerto Rican.

A League Round 10: Tskaltubo lose to Hyundai-TSU in the game between Top 4 teams - 13 hours ago
Very significant was Hyundai-TSU's (#2, 7-3) victory against 3rd ranked Tskaltubo (5-5) 95-66. The game without a history. Hyundai-TSU led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Tskaltubo's 30. Hyundai-TSU forced 23 Tskaltubo turnovers and outrebounded them 49-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. Point guard Sandro Sanadze (188-95) scored 28 points...   [read more]

This week's number one is an international forward Tornike Shengelia (206-91). American John Florveus (211-C-90) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Cactus Tbilisi and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 23. The 26-year old center had a double-double of 31 points and fourteen rebounds, while his team beat Mgzavrebi (#8, 6-17) 82-69. Cactus Tbilisi is placed at 4th position in Georgian Superleague.
