USC Freiburg wins German Cup - Apr 3, 2013

Four teams Heli Girls Noerdlingen Donau-Ries, Eisvogel USC Freiburg, evo New Basket Oberhausen, and TV Saarlouis Royals were qualified for the Top4, which was hosted by Eisvogel USC Freiburg. On Saturday, both semifinals were played. In the first game, Eisvogel USC Freiburg faced Heli Girls Noerdlingen Donau-Ries and could take an early lead. The hosts were leading 27-8 after the first quarter, and Donau-Ries was not able to cut Freiburg's lead back down. Freiburg moved with a 73-55 win into the cup final. In the second semifinal, evo New Basket Oberhausen and TV Saarlouis Royals delivered a close game. Saarlouis was in control most of the game, also at halftime with 44-34. Shortly before the end, evo Oberhausen took over and won the game 65-70. Therefore, Oberhausen moved the second year in a row in the cup final.
On Sunday, TV Saarlouis Royals and Heli Girls Noerdlingen Donau-Ries played for the bronze medal. It was a close game until the end, but then Saarlouis finished the game stronger and came up with a 67-60 victory, which brought them the bronze medal. Donau-Ries, who missed their injured point guard Amanda Rego, came in fourth, which is still a success.
In the final Eisvogel USC Freiburg played the former Cup Champion evo New Basket Oberhausen, who had the better start. Everything looked like a repeat from Oberhausen as they were leading 32-22 at halftime. However, in the second half, Freiburg started to cut down the lead and tied the game the first time at 45-45. The game stayed close until the end. Then Oberhausen turned the ball over as they werent able to bring the ball over the middle line. Furthermore, Oberhausen gave too many rebounds away, which all landed in the hands of Brooque Williams, who scored twice with put backs, and brought Eisvogel USC Freiburg the 62-57 victory and the first national title in club history!
