TSV Wasserburg claims Cup Titel 2016 - Mar 24, 2016

Past weekend the Top4 in the German Cup was hosted in Marburg. In the first semifinal Gruner Stern Keltern faced Herner TC and showed with aggressive defense how to beat the team spicked with a lot of German national players. Herner TC was held to a low shooting percentage and despite a Herner TCr-run at the end of the game, Gruner Stern Keltern grabbed the 73-67 win to move on to the Cup final.
In the second semifinal the hosts played vs. the remaining Cup Champions of 2014 and 2015 TSV 1880 Wasserburg. Marburg played strongly and didn't give in early. However, at the end Wasserburg with the deeper bench secured the 66-79 win and therefore moved on to the Cup final as well.
On Sunday, Marburg hosted Herner TC in the game for place 3. This time Herner TC was more focused than the day before and didn't give Marburg a lot of chances to score. Also, the small rotation due to injuries on Marburg's side became noticeable now and Herner TC could win the Bronze medal with a 51-67 win over the hosts.
In the final, Gruner Stern Keltern and Wasserburg provided a close and exciting game for a long time. At the end the well-rehearsed team of TSV 1880 Wasserburg secured the 64-85 win and claimed the Gold medal for the third year in a row. Finals MVP went to Sheylani Peddy (170-PG-88, college: Temple, agency: LBM Management) with a great performance in both games, scoring 20points in each game and grabbing 7 and 9 rebounds as well. Gruner Stern Keltern as newcomer in the league with the Silver medal can be more than satisfied with a great performance in their first year!

Wasserburg accounted for an 18:13 lead after the opening frame. They boosted the gap in the second term. Wasserburg posted a 41:26 halftime lead. The Royals narrowed the gap at 10-point mark at the final break. But Wasserburg responded with a 21:12 rally in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory.
