We bring you last week's top performances from Germans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Lisa Koop (197-85, college: Winthrop, currently plays in Italy). She contributed to Pall.Pozzuoli's victory against the closely-ranked Cagliari CUS (1-3) 69-62 in the Italian A1 in Sunday night's game. Koop scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 35 minutes on the court. Pallacanestro Pozzuoli (2-3) is placed seventh in the A1. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. This year Koop averages: 5.6ppg, 5.0rpg, 2FGP: 51.9% in the five games she played so far. She is currently a member of the German senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Petra Glaser (196-81, college: Long Beach St., currently plays in Sweden). Glaser led Kvarnby to an easy victory against the closely-ranked 08 Stockholm (5-4) crushing them 89-54 in the Swedish Damligan last Wednesday. She recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 11 rebounds. Kvarnby BBK (4-4) is placed sixth in the Damligan. Glaser has relatively good stats this season: 12.9ppg, 5.1rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 45.9%, 3FGP: 16.7% and FT: 94.1%(32-34). She played for the German national team in 2011.

   #3. The German player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Romy Baer (187-87, currently plays in France), who plays in the French LFB. Baer could not help Lyon (5-3) to beat Lattes Montpellier (8-0). It was not her best game last Saturday. Baer scored only 3 points in 21 minutes. Lyon was badly defeated 81-64 at home by the leading Lattes Montpellier. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It's Baer's first year with the team. This season her overall stats are: 9.0ppg, 4.1rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 31.1%, 3FGP: 36.0% and FT: 94.4%(17-18) in the eight games. Baer is also a member of the German senior national team.

   #4. Guard Lea Mersch (170-87, currently plays in Czech Republic) was not able to help DSK Karlin (2-8) in their game against Kara Trutnov (7-3) in the Czech Republic ZBL. Her contribution was not very remarkable in Saturday's game. Mersch recorded only 2 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. DSK Karlin was defeated 78-64 on the road by the higher-ranked Kara Trutnov (#4). It was DSK Karlin's sixth consecutive loss in a row. It's Mersch's first season with the team. Her total stats this year are: 3.2ppg, 2.9rpg and 1.3apg. Mersch used to play for the German national team last year.

   #5. Former U20 international guard Christiane Fischer (168-90, currently plays in Canada) managed to help Manitoba University in a victory against the Brandon (1-3) 62-53 in the Canadian university league CIS last Saturday. She scored 5 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 29 minutes. The Manitoba University has 2-2 record this season. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Fischer's total stats are: 4.8ppg, 3.8rpg, 1.8apg and 1.5spg in the four games. She used to play for the German U20 national team two years ago.

   #6. Center Nadine Grieb (184-87, currently plays in Luxembourg) was the major contributor in an AB Contern's victory against the closely-ranked T71 Dudelange (2-4) crushing them 93-62 in the Luxembourg Diekirch League on Saturday night. Grieb recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 11 rebounds. She also added 3 assists. AB Contern (5-2) is placed third in the Diekirch League. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. Grieb is currently seventh on the league's list of top scorers. She has individually a very good season with high stats. Grieb averages: 19.1ppg, 7.4rpg, 2.6apg and 1.9spg. She is a former U20 international player as she played for the German team five years ago.

   #7. Former U20 international power forward Mara Greunke (185-91, currently plays in Canada) contributed to a 2-point Western Ontario's victory against the Ottawa (1-1) 74-72 in the Canadian CIS in Friday night's game. Greunke recorded only 2 points in 22 minutes. The Western Ontario has 1-1 record this season. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Greunke has averaged so far 1.0ppg and 2.0rpg in the two games. She used to play for the German U20 national team two years ago.

Latvian Sabine Niedola (184-F-91) had an amazing evening in the last round for Saarlouis and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 1. The 25-year old forward had a double-double of 23 points and ten rebounds, while her team crushed, the league's bottom-ranked team Keltern (#12, 0-1) with 16-point margin 88-72. Saarlouis is placed at 5th position in German DBBL. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Saarlouis won just one (their first) game....   [read more]

American Guard Jennifer Mocanu (172-G-90) had an amazing evening in the last round for Speyer, receiving a Eurobasket.com 2.Bundesliga Player of the Week award for round 1. The 26-year old player was the main contributor (21 points, five rebounds and seven assists) to her team's victory, helping them to crush Wasserburg II (#10, 0-1) with 23-point margin 68-45. The Regular Season in DBBL just started. The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Gruner Stern Keltern (0-1) on the court of TV Saarlouis Royals on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by TV Saarlouis Royals 88-72. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-72.
