Jacob Burtschi claims German BBL weekly honour - Nov 20, 2012

Jacob
Burtschi
American Jacob Burtschi (198-F-84) had a great game in the last round for Bremerhaven and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9.
The 28-year old forward had a double-double of 21 points and thirteen rebounds, while his team beat Telekom Baskets (#10, 4-4) 100-87. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on the top of the standings. Bremerhaven is placed at 9th position in German BBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Bremerhaven will need more victories to improve their 5-4 record. In the team's last game Burtschi had a remarkable four three-pointers out of 8 attempts. It was one of impressive evenings for him as usually he does not deliver so high stats. U.S. Air Force Academy graduate has very impressive stats this year. Burtschi is in league's top in rebounds (4th best: 7.4rpg) and averages solid 46.9% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 24-year old American guard Reggie Redding (196-G-88) of Walter Tigers. Redding impressed basketball fans with 21 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists. It was enough for Walter Tigers to edge the lower-ranked NY Phantoms (#16, 2-7) by 5 points 85-80. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. But Walter Tigers managed to improve slightly their position in standings taking 13th place. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-5 record. Redding is well-known by Walter Tigers fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was another Walter Tigers' star - former international forward Johannes Lischka (203-F/C-87). Lischka scored 24 points and grabbed twelve rebounds (!!!). He was another key player of Walter Tigers, helping his team with a 85-80 win against the lower-ranked NY Phantoms (#16, 2-7). The chances of Walter Tigers not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 5 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Lischka could try to bring Walter Tigers' a little bit higher in the standings. Lischka has a very solid season. In 8 games in Germany he scored 9.8ppg. He also has 6.0rpg and FGP: 55.1%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. John Bryant (208-C-87) of Ratiopharm - 26 points and 5 rebounds
5. Maik Zirbes (208-C-90) of Brose Bask. - 10 points and 11 rebounds
6. Stanley Burrell (190-PG-84) of Bremerhaven - 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Vule Avdalovic (189-PG-81) of ALBA - 5 points, 4 rebounds and 10 assists
8. Gary McGhee (208-C-88) of Bayreuth - 13 points and 11 rebounds
9. David Weaver (209-C-87) of Neckar L'burg - 17 points and 2 rebounds
10. Zach Morley (203-F-83) of ALBA - 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
