Derrick Allen (203-F-80, agency: Pro One Sports, college: Mississippi) is a 32 year old 203cm forward that grew up in Gadsen Alabama that is playing his first season in Belgium for Belgacom Spirou. You are playing your first season in Belgium for Belgacom Spirou. Was it strange leaving the Beko BBL after 8 years?

Yes it was tough leaving the Beko BBL. I thought it was ok to go. I had a good opportunity in Belgium. Spirou has wanted me the last years and now it finally worked out. I will miss Germany.

You had a double double in your first game with 15 points and 10 rebounds. This league seems to be compatible with your game.

Yes I think it is. The league is competitive, but it the level suits my game. Many guys that have played in the Beko BBL like Demond Mallet, Chris Copeland or Caleb Green have played here and been successful.

Is it easier to get used to the Belgium league when there are eight Americans in the team?

Yes it is a lot easier to adapt to the league when there are so many Americans in the team. There are less teams, but the rules are still the same.

You are 32 years old now. Do you have to work even harder now than when you were younger?

I have to work a lot harder. When you get older you have to take more care of your body. You have to rest more and also come into camp in better shape. You have to work even harder in practice and games. I do feel different as I get older each day.

What are the chances that Belgacom can win the title this season?

Winning the title is one of our goals. The team lost to Ostende last season in game 5 and are hungry to win this season.

It is always a pleasure to watch you play in the zone. Who will be dizzy first you or the energizer bunny?

I think that the energizer bunny will be dizzy first.

How difficult is it playing every day against ex Beko BBL player Mike Scott who played 5 games for the Washington Wizzards in the 2012 NBA Summer League.

Mike Scott is still developing. He plays the three for us. He always works hard in practice and brings much energy on the court. He is a slasher and good defender that does all the little things. I think that he will have a very good career.

What NBA stories has Jiri Welsch told the team this season.

He isnt on the team now. He is still working out his contract with management.

You played against Je Kel Foster in the Beko BBL and practice with him every day. What is the most amazing thing that you have seen him do in practice?

I had played against many times, but to be honest I had never realized how good of a shooter he is. He plays a lot of point guard for us, but I continue to be impressed how well he shoots the three pointer. I have seen him make seven or eight three pointers in a row in practice.

Andre Riddick is playing his 11th season for Belgacom Spirou. Did he help you as tourist guide and showing you the places to eat?

He showed me much as did Justin Hamilton. Riddick is a good guy and our captain. He is the leader of the team and he always does everything to help make the team be better.

You played two seasons for Alba Berlin, but couldnt win a title. Were the teams put together wrong?

No I dont think that they were put together wrong. My first year, we had a better all around team than last year. We underachieved last season.

There were rumors that you might return to Frankfurt. Do you think you might come back at the end of your career?

I dont know. We did talk a little, but there was nothing serious. It depends where the Skyliners will be in two years. If the right chance comes, I would love to come back. Frankfurt has a special place in my heart.

What was the most amazing thing that you saw Dashaun Wood do on the court in practice?

I like how he uses his speed. He can run down the court and beta 8 guys. His speed and scoring is second to none.

How is your your meter time of 10,7 doing?

I have no idea. That time was from training camp 2009. I havent ran it since. But I am sure it is not quite the same.

What is your favorite German saying?

I have some that I cant be said in an interview. I always think it is funny when people that dont think I know German hear me say Alles Gute.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

Bad boys 2 with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith.

Thanks Derrick for the chat.
