VEF Riga clinched a crucial victory to stay alive in the race for EuroBasket Last 16 race. They held off visiting Artland Dragons in Riga to improve at 2-3 record in Group C. Artland slipped at 1-4 record. Kristaps Janicenoks (196-F-83) delivered 19 points to pace the Latvian team. VEF Riga aggressively entered the game. They knocked down 27 points to account for an 8-point lead at the first break. VEF Riga stayed in charge throughout the second quarter. They established a 43:34 halftime lead. Artland Dragons tried to take over in the third quarter. The German team got as close as 7 points at the final break. The Dragons cut the deficit at 6-point mark in the fourth stanza however Kristaps Janicenoks made sure VEF Riga avoided nervous final seconds and seal the victory at the end. Will Daniels (203-F-86, college: Rhode Island) and Earl Rowland (188-G-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) provided 12 points each for VEF Riga.
