Urspring Wins Arby Classic Writing History In The United States - Jan 1, 2013

In the last years it has become more difficult for Americans to say 100% that they rule basketball as European countries have made more strides in international competition and last night the United States were rippled a bit more in their basketball ego as Urspring was the first foreign team to win the well known Arby classic in Tennessee in the 30 year history of the tournament. Urspring that was making its eighth appearance at Arby beat the defending champion Mentor high school 63-51. Urspring also became only the second team to go 5-0 in winning the title, joining 1994 winner Augusta (Ga.) Westside, which also went undefeated in the tournament.

Urspring took an old adage to heart in that defense wins championships and that is exactly what got them the Arby classic title. Mentor had averaged 79 points in its first three games, but had no solution how to put up points against Urspring as they produced only 51 points. The German side found their rhythm fast as German Kenneth Ogbe hit his first three three pointers getting Urspring rolling and they never looked back controlling the game until the final buzzer. Mentor had to play catch up all game long and their poor shooting percentage didnt help their cause either. Urspring was led by Kenneth Ogbe who netted home 24 points and hauled down eight rebounds. German Malik Mueller (188-G-94) who had dominated the tournament finished with nine points, but also snatched the MVP award as he clearly was the best player of the tournament. "The reason why we won this tournament was because we had such a strong and deep team that we could go with more intensity into the games than other teams. We did a great job on defense, dominated the boards and played with a lot of discipline on offense and didn't let anyone take us out of our sets. We also have had a great team chemistry this season and that helped our game. Winning the MVP means a lot to me and I gave everything in leading my team to the title. But I am more happy for the team success that we finally won the title after three years", stressed malik Mueller.

Melsahn Basabe (ex Goettingen) agreed terms with Doxa Lefkadas - 5 hours ago

Newly promoted AE Doxa Lefkadas (A1) inked 24-year old American power forward Melsahn Basabe (201-100kg-92, college: Iowa). He was about to sign at BG Goettingen in German BBL league. The last season Basabe played at Antwerp Giants (Scooore League) in Belgium where in 13 games he recorded very impressive stats: 16.5ppg, 7.2rpg, 1.2spg and 1.0bpg. A very good season in his career as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Belgian League Honorable Mention. Basabe also played 9 games in FIBA Euro...   [read more]

Can Julian Gamble And The Telekom Baskets Bonn Make The Next Step This Season? - 11 hours ago

On the court, professional basketball players take the game very seriously because it's the game they love and it's also what pays some Las Vegas weekends, but off the court, the majority of players are able to take a step back from their hardnosed focus and can also be more relaxed and in more of a joking manner to help kick the time away. Ex Fraport Skyliner Anthony King played many times in the Telekom Dome and even as a BBL allstar in 2014 probably could of come up with a funny line f...   [read more]
