Larry Gordon
Larry Gordon (196-F-87, college: Cal Poly Pomona) is a 25 year old 196cm forward that is playing his first season in the German Beko BBL for Phoenix Hagen. He played at Cal Poly Pomona (NCAA2) from 2005 to 2009 playing a total of 116 NcAA2 games. In his senior year, he played 33 games: 15.7ppg, 10.4rpg, 2.0apg, 1.7apg, FGP: 53.8%, 3PT: 38.5%, FT: 75.7%. He was a CCAA Player of the Year and NCAA D2 Finalist in 2009. In 2009-2010, he came to Europe as a rookie and played for Landstede Basketbal Zwolle (Holland-Eredivisie, starting five): 36 games: 14.0ppg, 8.1rpg, 1.8apg, 1.2spg, FGP: 48.3%, 3PT: 33.7%, FT: 75.8%. He played for ECE Bulls Kapfenberg (Austria-A Bundesliga) the last two seasons and last season played 38 games: 14.7ppg, Reb-3 (8.4rpg), 1.8apg, FGP-3 (65.2%), 3PT: 36.2%, FT: 77.1%. He spoke to Eurobasket about the 2013 Beko BBL allstar weekend.

Phoenix Hagen finished the first half of the season in ninth place with a record of 9-9. How happy have you been with the play and what does the team need to improve in the second half of the season?

I'm happy that we are getting where we want to be at is time and that's close to a playoff spot. We still have a lot of work to do to secure a spot, but I think we are in perfect striking position. A couple more Wins and less losses, we probably would be in 6 or 7 place right now.

Phoenix Hagen is playing good basketball as of late. How have you gotten used to the Hagen play of If we can score one point more than the opponent than all is fine?

Yea we are playing with more sense of urgency, we have learned a lot from losses and Wins. We are starting to really define ourselves as what type of team we are and getting really comfortable with the style we like to play. I really enjoying how we are getting better and better each game.

Phoenix Hagen has had many guys that have been big in the scoring department with Davin White, David Bell or yourself. What player though has been the unsung hero of the first half?

I would say Davin because he is our point guard and when the pg is playing good, the whole team starts to play good, and you can see his progression from the first 6 games of the season till now, he has been on a mission as of late and guys are just following the lead.

How cool is it to be competiting in the three point shooting and dunk contest at the 2013 Allstar weekend?

I think it is very awesome. The fact that I never competed in a 3pt contest is very exciting, and the fact that its my first year in the league, I get to show my shooting skills as well as my athletic ability. Can't wait!

How have you been preparing for both contests?

I've just been doing my regular routine nothing special, getting up shots and practicing certain dunks I want to try to attempt.

What shooter did you always admire as a kid and now in the NBA?

I have a long list of great shooters, Larry Bird, Reggie Miller, Peja Stojakovic, Steve Kerr, Robert Horry. And now in the league I really like Ray Allen, Stephen Curry and Steve Novak.

Which shooter do you feel will give you the most problems? I believe that ex Phoenix Hagen forward Jacob Burtschi will be more than focused to win his second title

I agree with as well as Mallet who is a natural shooter as well as Burtschi. They are going to be tough, but I'm confident in my shooting ability. I'm not a pure shooter but I can knock them down. It's going to be fun.

What dunker did you always admire as a kid and which dunker do you like now in NBA?

Vince Carter! When I stared dunking, Vince Carter was the best of the best and might be the greatest Dunker of all time. And now I would say Blake Griffin, he punishes whoever is in between him and the rim, can't get any better than that.

Brian Hunter has had a great first season. Do you expect him to be your biggest opponent in the dunk contest?

I have no idea, most of the guys I really don't remember playing against and nobody really showed any super athletic ability, so think its anybody's contest. Who ever is more focused and wants it more will WiN.

Does team national have any chance of beating team international? What is your opinion of this kind of format?

I think it's a good format, and there are a lot of good German Players, but I think Team International is going to Win this battle.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

This is 40

Thanks Larry fort he chat
