Canadian forward Kathryn Verboom (179-F-86) had a great game in the last round for Speyer, receiving a Eurobasket.com 2.Bundesliga Player of the Week award for round 14. The 26-year old player had a double-double of 32 points and 15 rebounds, while her team crushed Jahn Muenchen (#9, 4-9) with 24-point margin 97-73. Speyer maintains the 6th position in German 2.Bundesliga. Speyer is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 7-6 record. In the team's last game Verboom had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range. She has many years of experience at Speyer, through which he has constantly improved. Kathryn Verboom averages this season 17.2ppg and 8.0rpg.
The second best player in last round's games was 25-year old Katharina Schnitzler (173-G-87) of Mainz. Schnitzler had a very good evening with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Of course she lead Mainz to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Rhein MB II (#10, 3-11) 74-41. This victory allowed Mainz to move up to 5th position in North. Her team lost some distance to top teams. But 8-6 record is not bad and everything may still change. Schnitzler is well-known at Mainz and is a proven leader in her second season with the team.
Third on the list of top players last round was forward Viktoria Wohlers (190-F/C) of Jahn Muenchen (#9). Wohlers scored 26 points and grabbed thirteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Wohlers' great performance Jahn Muenchen lost 73-97 to the higher-ranked Speyer (#6, 7-6). But her team cannot count on just a single shooter as she also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Jahn Muenchen not to end season at such low position in South, however are less than slim as they have already lost 9 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Wohlers could try to bring Jahn Muenchen's a little bit higher in the standings. Wohlers has a very solid season. In 11 games in Germany she scored 10.5ppg. She also has 6.8rpg and 1.1bpg.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Alexa Mennen (185-F-87) of Hannover - 22 points and 18 rebounds 5. Noemie Rouault (180-F-95) of Berlin - 16 points and 17 rebounds 6.
