Jasmine Byrd
The most exciting game of round 15 in the DBBL took place in Osnabruck. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-best SV Halle Lions (10-5) to sixth ranked Osnabruck (9-6) 59-56 on Sunday evening. The hosts trailed by 6 points at the halftime before their 23-12 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great evening for American guard Jasmine Byrd (173-85, college: NC-Greensboro) who led her team to a victory scoring 23 points. Power forward Juliane Hoehne (189-83, college: IPFW) helped adding 14 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Canadian forward Tamara Tatham (185-85, college: Massachusetts) with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Osnabruck have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Freiburg and Heli Girls. SV Halle Lions at the other side keep the second position with five games lost. They share it with Wolfenbuettel. Osnabruck is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Herner TC (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SV Halle Lions will play against Eisvogel Freiburg (#6) and are hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Wildcats Wolfenbuettel (10-5) against eleventh ranked Don Bosco Bamberg (3-12) on Saturday night. Visiting Wildcats Wolfenbuettel was defeated by Don Bosco Bamberg in a tough game in Bamberg 75-81. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Wildcats Wolfenbuettel. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Janae Young (183-87, college: Pacific) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Alina Hartmann accounted for 18 points and 8 rebounds. Don Bosco Bamberg's coach Steffen Dauer used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Latvian center Ieva Kulite (191-88) came up with 14 points and 8 rebounds for Wildcats Wolfenbuettel in the defeat. Newly promoted Don Bosco Bamberg maintains eleventh place with 3-12 record, which they share with Herner. Defending champion Wildcats Wolfenbuettel dropped to the second position with five games lost. They share it with Halle. Don Bosco Bamberg will play against league's leader TSV 1880 Wasserburg on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Wildcats Wolfenbuettel will play against Oberhausen and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Noerdlingen. 4th placed host Heli Girls (9-6) lost to first ranked TSV 1880 Wasserburg (13-2) 77-63. Bottom-ranked Herner TC managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of five consecutive loses. This time newly promoted Herner TC won against eighth-ranked BC Pharmaserv Marburg 74-57. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 17-point difference suggests that Herner TC is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It was a good game for Teya Wright who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Herner TC's coach Marek Piotrowski allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Herner TC (3-12) moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Bamberg. An interesting game took place in Oberhausen where 4th placed Eisvogel Freiburg (9-6) was upset on the court of tenth ranked Oberhausen (6-9) 53-48 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Eisvogel Freiburg. It was a great evening for Sharon Beld who led her team to a victory scoring 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Eisvogel Freiburg's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Oberhausen. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Eisvogel Freiburg keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Oberhausen will face higher ranked Wildcats Wolfenbuettel (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Oberhausen - Freiburg 53-48

The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 53-48. It was a great evening for Dutch forward Sharon Beld (184-88) who led her team to a victory scoring 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Fijian guard Valerie Nainima (165-86, college: S.Carolina) helped adding 14 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was American swingman Jahzinga Tracey (185, college: Indiana, PA) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import forward Mariesa Greene (183-87, college: Barry) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Eisvogel Freiburg will play against the league's second-placed SV Halle Lions where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
