BBL top team - Brose Bask. (18-2) had no problems winning another game on Monday. This time they crushed sixteenth ranked New Yorker Phantoms (6-14) in Bamberg 93-74. The game was mostly controlled by Brose Bask.. New Yorker Phantoms managed to win second period 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for American-FYR Macedonian forward Jeremiah Massey (202-82, college: Kansas St.) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Naturalized Slovakian point guard Anton Gavel (188-84, agency: Pro One Sports) contributed with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. International point guard Dennis Schroeder (181-93) answered with 20 points and 4 assists for New Yorker Phantoms. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brose Bask. have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 18-2 record. New Yorker Phantoms lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the sixteenth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Fraport SKY. Brose Bask. are looking forward to face EWE Baskets (#4) in Oldenburg in the next round. New Yorker Phantoms will play at home against TBB Trier (#9) and are hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
The game in Oldenburg was also worth to mention about. 4th placed ALBA Berlin (12-6) played at the court of fifth ranked EWE Baskets (13-6). EWE Baskets defeated ALBA Berlin 82-67. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of ALBA Berlin. American guard Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri, agency: Pro One Sports) stepped up and scored 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Chris Kramer chipped in 16 points and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was international point guard Heiko Schaffartzik (183-84) with 18 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. EWE Baskets moved-up to fourth place. ALBA Berlin at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. EWE Baskets will play against league's leader Brose Bask. in Bamberg in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ALBA Berlin will play on the road against Bayern Muenchen (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Trier was also quite interesting. Third ranked ratiopharm Ulm (14-6) played at the court of 7th ranked TBB Trier (10-10). ratiopharm Ulm managed to secure a 4-point victory 86-82 on Sunday. American players dominated the game. John Bryant nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side. Nate Linhart came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for TBB Trier in the defeat. TBB Trier's coach Henrik Roedl rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for ratiopharm Ulm. They moved-up to second place. Loser TBB Trier keeps the seventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Telekom Baskets and Phoenix Hagen. ratiopharm Ulm will meet Telekom Baskets (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. TBB Trier will play against New Yorker Phantoms in Braunschweig and hope to secure a win.
A very interesting game took place in Ludwigsburg. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of higher ranked BBC Bayreuth (9-12) to seventeenth ranked EnBW Ludwigsburg (7-14) 70-69 on Saturday evening. The best player for the winners was Eric Coleman who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). BBC Bayreuth's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. EnBW Ludwigsburg moved-up to fifteenth place. BBC Bayreuth at the other side dropped to the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. EnBW Ludwigsburg's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked LTi 46ers (#18) in Giessen.
The game between 18th ranked LTi 46ers (4-16) and thirteenth ranked Walter Tigers (10-11) in Giessen on Saturday ended with biggest points difference.
