Davin White claims German BBL weekly honour - Feb 18, 2013

Davin White
Experienced American Davin White (186-G-81) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Phoenix Hagen and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 23.
The 31-year old guard had the game-high 33 points adding two rebounds for Phoenix Hagen in his team's victory, helping them to beat Ratiopharm (#4, 14-8) 90-78. Phoenix Hagen is placed at 8th position in German BBL. Phoenix Hagen is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 11-11 record. In the team's last game White had a remarkable 83.3% from 2-point range. He turned to be Phoenix Hagen's top player in his first season with the team. Cal State - Northridge graduate has very impressive stats this year. White is league's best scorer averaging so far 18.1ppg. White is in league's top in assists (5th best: 4.0apg) and averages solid 53.1% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 29-year old American power forward John Turek (206-F/C-83) of Neckar L'burg. Turek impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Neckar L'burg lost that game 68-75 to the higher-ranked Telekom Baskets (#7, 12-10). Neckar L'burg is still second from the bottom in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-15 record. Turek is a newcomer at Neckar L'burg and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 14.1ppg (#8). He also registered 5.5 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was American Deon Thompson (203-F-88) of ALBA (#5). Thompson scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He was a key player of ALBA, leading his team to a 81-76 win against the lower-ranked Bremerhaven (#13, 9-13). ALBA needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 13 victories and 7 lost games. Thompson has a great season in Germany. After 20 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 14.6ppg (7th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Casey Jacobsen (198-G/F-81) of Brose Bask. - 23 points and 4 assists
5. Zachery Peacock (203-F-87) of Fraport SKY - 20 points and 5 rebounds
6. Dawan Robinson (189-G-82) of Fraport SKY - 21 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Nick Schneiders (221-C-84) of NY Phantoms - 12 points and 10 rebounds
8. Dennis Schroeder (181-PG-93) of NY Phantoms - 20 points and 6 assists
9. Bradley Buckman (203-F-84) of Art.Dragons - 19 points and 5 rebounds
10. Bryce Taylor (196-SG-86) of Art.Dragons - 14 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Tony Gaffney
