There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked SC Rasta Vechta (17-6) on the court of fifth ranked Cuxhaven BasCats on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Cuxhaven BasCats 98-91. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of SC Rasta Vechta. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But SC Rasta Vechta won third quarter 27-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for American forward Scott Thomas (200-89, college: Bowling Green, agency: I.D.S. Law) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Evan Harris (206-86, college: Harvard, agency: I.D.S. Law) helped adding 19 points and 6 rebounds. The former international center Dirk Madrich (211-83) responded with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cuxhaven BasCats (14-9) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Karlsruhe. Newly promoted SC Rasta Vechta still keeps top position with six games lost. They share it with Goettingen. Cuxhaven BasCats is looking forward to face Crailsheim Merlins (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SC Rasta Vechta will play against Kirchheim Knights (#13) and is hoping to win this game.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Karlsruhe. 4th placed host BG Karlsruhe (14-9) lost to third ranked Duesseldorf Baskets (16-7) 80-67. It was an exceptional evening for guard Nico Adamczak (189-90) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Triantafillos Tzakopoulos accounted for 11 points and 7 assists. Duesseldorf Baskets' coach Murat Didin allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Rouven Roessler (200-80) came up with 11 points for BG Karlsruhe in the defeat. Duesseldorf Baskets maintains third place with 16-7 record behind leader Vechta. BG Karlsruhe at the other side keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. They share it with Cuxhaven. Duesseldorf Baskets will play against NBC (#10) in Nurnberg in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BG Karlsruhe will play on the road against MLP Academics Heidelberg (#8) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Paderborn between Crailsheim Merlins and Finke Baskets. Twelfth ranked Crailsheim Merlins (10-13) got a very close victory on the road over 13th ranked Finke Baskets (9-14). Crailsheim Merlins managed to escape with a 3-point win 71-68 on Saturday evening. The best player for the winners was Josten Crow who scored 22 points and 4 steals. Crailsheim Merlins' coach Willie Young used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Vincent Kittmann produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the hosts. Crailsheim Merlins have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with ETB Wohnbau. Loser Finke Baskets keep the thirteenth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Kirchheim. Crailsheim Merlins will meet at home higher ranked Cuxhaven BasCats (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Finke Baskets will play against USC Leipzig (#16) and hope to secure a win.
An interesting game took place in Kirchheim where higher ranked ETB Wohnbau (10-13) was upset on the court of fifteenth ranked Kirchheim Knights (9-14) 70-59. Americans were the main players on the court. Marcus Smallwood orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 17 rebounds and 6 blocks. Kirchheim Knights moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Finke Baskets. ETB Wohnbau at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Kirchheim Knights' next round opponent will be league's leader SC Rasta Vechta on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
