Neckar RIESEN Ludwigsburg (BBL) strengthened their roster with addition of 32-year old American guard Derrick Zimmerman (191-88kg-81, college: Mississippi State, agency: Three Eye Sports). He played at DniproAzot in Ukrainian Superleague, but left the team Feb.'13. In 30 Superleague games he recorded 9.2ppg, 5.7rpg, 5.8apg and 1.8spg this season. The last season Zimmerman played at BC Kyiv (Superleague) in Ukraine. In 33 games he averaged 13.7ppg, 5.2rpg, 5.6apg (top 3) and 1.2spg. Great season indeed as he was voted to Ukrainian Superleague All-Star Game.
The previous (10-11) season he played at Hoverla (Superleague) in Ukraine. In 60 games he averaged 10.6ppg, 4.8rpg, 4.9apg (top 3) and 1.3spg that season. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. A very good season in his career as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Ukrainian Superleague Honorable Mention.
In 2003 Zimmerman was drafted by Golden State Warriors (NBA) in second round (40th overall). The former Mississippi State staris in his tenth season in pro basketball.
Among other achievements Zimmerman's team won Ukrainian Superleague Regular Season in 2010. He received also All D-League Defensive Player of the Year award back in 2006.
Zimmerman is a very experienced player. He has played also professionally in Bosnia (HKK Siroki WWin), Italy (Air Avellino), NBA (Brooklyn Nets), Germany (Brose Baskets Bamberg), UBA (Columbus Cl.) and D-League (Austin Toros).
The scouts decsribe him following way: Tremendous athletic backcourt talent. Could also see some action again at the off-guard spot with improved perimeter game. Tenacious defender with quick hands.
