BBL Round 26: #1 Brose Bask. is defeated by Phoenix Hagen - Mar 10, 2013

There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games.

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Brose Bask. (21-4) on the court of eleventh ranked Phoenix Hagen on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Phoenix Hagen 104-97. American guard Mark Dorris (188-85, college: Marshall, agency: Court Side) scored 25 points to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Larry Gordon (196-87, college: Cal Poly Pomona) chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Naturalized Slovakian point guard Anton Gavel (188-84, agency: Pro One Sports) responded with 28 points and 4 assists. Phoenix Hagen (12-13) moved-up to ninth place, which they share with TBB Trier and s.Oliver Baskets. Defending champion Brose Bask. still keeps top position with four games lost. Phoenix Hagen is looking forward to face higher ranked Telekom Baskets (#7) in Bonn in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Brose Bask. will play at home against Artland Dragons (#6) in Quakenbrueck and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Tuebingen. Ninth ranked Walter Tigers (13-13) saved a 3-point victory at home edging second-ranked Bayern Muenchen (17-9) 89-86 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. The former international Johannes Lischka (203-87, agency: LUMANI 10.7) notched 21 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and Kenny Frease supported him with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Even 19 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) by American point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll., agency: Priority Sports) did not help to save the game for Bayern Muenchen. Bayern Muenchen's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Walter Tigers moved-up to eighth place. Bayern Muenchen at the other side keeps the second position with nine games lost. Walter Tigers will play against s Oliver Baskets (#11) in Wuerzburg in the next round. Bayern Muenchen will play at home against LTi 46ers (#18) in Giessen and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Quakenbrueck was also quite interesting. 5th ranked ALBA Berlin (15-9) played at the court of sixth ranked Artland Dragons (14-12). Artland Dragons defeated ALBA Berlin 72-56 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was Anthony King who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Yassin Idbihi produced 13 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Artland Dragons maintains sixth position with 14-12 record. Loser ALBA Berlin keeps the fifth place with nine games lost. Artland Dragons will meet league's leader Brose Bask. in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. ALBA Berlin will play against EnBW Ludwigsburg (#16) and hope to secure a win.
