Merritt Hempe claims German DBBL weekly honour - Feb 28, 2017

Hempe
American Merritt Hempe (190-F-94) had a great game in the last round for Chemnitz and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 19.
The 22-year old forward had a double-double of 29 points and twelve rebounds, while her team beat BG 89 Avides (#12, 3-16) 81-73. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on top of the standings. Chemnitz maintains the 9th position in German DBBL. Chemnitz is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 7-12 record. Hempe turned to be Chemnitz's top player in her first season with the team. University of Georgia graduate has very impressive stats this year. Hempe is in league's top in points (2nd best: 18.8ppg) and rebounds (6th best: 9.2rpg).

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 23-year old Canadian forward Kim Pierre-Louis (183-F-93) of Donau-Ries. Pierre-Louis impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Donau-Ries lost that game 71-79 to the higher-ranked Hannover (#7, 9-10). Donau-Ries is still second from the bottom in the standings. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-13 record. Pierre-Louis is a newcomer at Donau-Ries and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.9ppg (#5). She also registered 9.6 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was Latvian Sabine Niedola (184-F-91) of Saarlouis (#4). Niedola showcased her all-around game by recording 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the last round. Despite Niedola's great performance Saarlouis lost 64-82 to #1 ranked Wasserburg. But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Saarlouis needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 12 victories and 7 lost games. Niedola has a great season in Germany. After 19 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.2ppg (4th best) and rebounds with 9.7rpg (3rd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Maja Vucurovic (187-PF-91) of Keltern - 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Sheylani Peddy (170-PG-88) of Wasserburg - 10 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists
6. Maegan Conwright (173-G-92) of Chemnitz - 21 points and 6 assists
7. Svenja Greunke (188-F/C-89) of Marburg - 17 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Janae Young (183-G-87) of BG 89 Avides - 25 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Lindsay Sherbert (184-G) of Bad Aibling - 13 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Soana Lucet (185-F-87) of Wasserburg - 16 points and 12 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Romy Baer selected the top German playing abroad in last week's games - 3 days ago
Here is the weekly review of the top performing German players, who play currently abroad. This week's number one is an international forward Romy Baer (187-87). She could not help Lattes Montpellier (0-2) in their last game. Despite Baer's good performance the seventh-placed Lattes Montpellier (0-2) was crushed 80-56 on the road by the second-ranked Yakin Dogu BGD in the group B of Euroleague.    [read more]

German DBBL round 5 best performance: Khadijah Shumpert - 5 days ago
American Power forward Khadijah Shumpert (188-F/C-93) had a very impressive game in the last round for Halle, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5. The 24-year old player had a double-double of 33 points and 13 rebounds, while her team Halle moved-up to the 10th position in German DBBL. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 4 games and recorded just one victory. Shumpert turned to be Halle's top player in her first s...   [read more]

Forward Kirsten Gaffney (185-F) had a great game in the last round for Freiburg, receiving a Eurobasket.com 2.Bundesliga Player of the Week award for round 4. The player had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while her team crushed Krofdorf/Gleib. (#7, 2-2) with 25-point margin 79-54. Freiburg is placed at 3rd position in their group in German 2.Bundesliga. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Freiburg will need more victori...   [read more]
