Panathinaikos is the champion!!! - Jun 11, 2017

Panathinaikos return to his throne after a short break of two years, and in his familiar position as a champion. Xavier Pascual is closing his first season in the Greek league with an absolute success as after the Greek Cup a couple of months ago, he now won the champion after an awesome game against its rival and Euroleague finalist Olympiakos.
Panathinaikos was a much better team with more solutions and more passion than the home team and took the lead right after the beginning of the second period and never watched back with the deficit at one stage going as far as +21 for Panathinaikos who had an amazing quartet consisting of KC Rivers, Nic Calathes, Bourousis and Mike James (185-PG-90, college: Lamar). These four players together with Nikos Pappas were simply astonishing..
Panathinaikos against all odds, against all the "professional" opinions, against all the Greek Media and their analyses all this time, was able not only to prove them wrong but to win the final fifth game quite easily as Olympiakos was never in the game with the only exception being the first 6-8 minutes from then and on, the tired players of Olympiakos were not able to compete the passionate and full of willpower players of Panathinaikos who played as a solid team closing their ears and their mouths (amazing calmness in a court full of 'red" fans) and quite nervous opponents.
The final score was 51-66 in a game where the "green" defense" was absolutely fantastic. Olympiakos, a team which was scoring more than 73 points in both Euroleague and the Greek league stopped (at his home court) to the 51 points in the game which ended just a few minutes ago since it was interrupted 2.20' before the end when the score was 49-66 when the home teams fans entered in the court and created a mess with their behavior.

The game was not the derby that was expected from the home teams fans since Panathinaikos enter the second period wit a specific tactic and Coach Pasqual did a check-mate to Coach Sferopoulos when he played with three short and fast players against a more slower and taller team, so the guards of Panathinaikos (scoring in total of 33 points) dominated the game with Coach Sferopoulos not being able to find a "cure" against this schema. Olympiakos had many issues also with the solid defense in both parameter and the paint as Bourousis this time was able to dominated with his game against his opponents (The Green international player ended the game with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 block shots and 2 steals) while the MVP of the game was Mike James with his totally random and solid statistics as he ended the game with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 turnovers in nearly 31 minutes in the court

It is also worth mentioned the fact that Printezis (one of the top performers of the team) ended the game with just 4 points and 2/14 and 4 rebounds while the captain of the team Spanoulis ended the game with 9 points and 1/8 three pointers.

    Top scorers:
Olympiakos: Agravanis 10 points (8 of which when the deficit went up to 21 points at the beginning of the third period) and no other player had a double digits with Spanoulis having 9 and Papanikolaou having 7 and 8 rebounds

Panathianikos: Calathes 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, James 11 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, Pappas 10 points and 3 steals, Rivers 13 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist and Bourousis 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 block shots and 2 steals)

Some statistical differences for the two teams:
Both the teams had awful percentages from the charity line as Olympiakos ended with 57% and 8/14 while Panathinaikos was a bit better with 60% and 6/10. Olympiakos dashed down 45 rebounds against 43 of Panathinaikos, while Panathinaikos had 17 assists against the 7 of Olympiakos moreover Olympaikos stole the ball three times against the 8 steals of Panathinaikos, so it was obvious that the domination was total!!

Panathinaikos capture Cup title - Feb 18, 2017

    Panathinaikos - Aris 68:59

Panathinaikos celebrated the Greek Cup title. They edged Aris Thessaloniki in the Final tonight. James Feldeine (193-G-88, college: Quinnipiac) scored 18 points to pace the winners.
Panathinaikos got to a strong start. They held Aris to just 10 points in the opening frame to gain an 8-point lead. Aris narrowed the deficit in the second term. The Thessaloniki side pulled within 2 points at halftime 29:27. But Panathinaikos went off the dressing room firing from all guns. They ignited a 21:10 rally to secure a massive 13-point lead at the final break. Aris could not recover in the fourth term as the Athens powerhouse marched to the trophy. Nick Calathes (198-PG-89, college: Florida) delivered 15 points, while Mike James (185-PG-90, college: Lamar) and Chris Singleton (206-F-89, college: Florida St.) added 9 points each for Panathinaikos. Will Cummings (188-G-92, college: Temple) responded with 20 points for Aris. Michael Jenkins (193-SG-86, college: Winthrop) tossed in 12 points in the defeat.

Panathinaikos: James Feldeine 18, Nick Calathes 15, Mike James 9, Chris Singleton 9
Aris: Will Cummings 20, Michael Jenkins 12
