    A2 Round 2 of Finals: Faros earn promotion to A1 - May 25, 2017


    Faros - Iraklis 86-75

    Faros will play in A1 League next season as they defeated Iraklis in the Final series. Faros shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. 26 personal fouls committed by Iraklis helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Center Gaios Skordilis (207-87, agency: Diamond Sports) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Guard Giannis Dimakos (192-94) contributed with 26 points for the winners. Four Faros players scored in double figures. Lithuanian Ronaldas Rutkauskas (203-92) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and guard Yannis Gagaloudis (192-78) added 16 points in the effort for Iraklis.

    A2 Round 30: Panionios beat Doukas to clinch A1 promotion - May 7, 2017


    The Regular Season in A2 just ended.

    The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Panionios (#1) and Doukas (#3). Panionios (26-4) smashed visiting Doukas (25-5) by 25 points 83-58. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Panionios outrebounded Doukas 39-23 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Doukas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Bosnian-British center Fahro Alihodzic (208-89, college: UAB) who scored 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Center Tasos Dimitriadis (204-82) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Giorgos Koukas (180-85) who recorded 14 points and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panionios have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Panionios maintains first position with 26-4 record, which they share with Iraklis. Doukas at the other side keeps the third place with five games lost.

    Rest of the games of round 30 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
    Kavala was crushed by Ethnikos in Piraeus 73-52. Irakleio was beaten by Holargos at home 60-73. Aiolos Astakou won against Doxa Pefkon on the opponent's court 73-65. Psychiko outscored GS Larissas in a home game 98-66. Amyntas Dafnis was rolled over Iraklis on the road 82-50. AE Larissas was defeated by Faros on its own court 80-94.

    Pagrati - Arkadikos 67-103

    The game with biggest result difference took place in Athens. Local Pagrati (2-28) was outscored by eleventh ranked Arkadikos (12-18) 103-67. Arkadikos dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Pagrati's 30. They outrebounded Pagrati 55-23 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for forward Giannis Prodromou (196-87) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 16 rebounds. Point guard Ioannis Karamalegkos (191-94) contributed with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Prodromou is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Arkadikos players scored in double figures.     There was no surprise in Piraeus where 12th ranked Kavala (10-20) was crushed by eighth ranked Ethnikos (16-14) 73-52. It was a good game for swingman Nikos Kokkalis (198-85) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Estonian point guard Rait-Riivo Laane (179-93) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Polish-American guard Andy Mazurczak (188, college: Wisc.-Parkside, agency: Duran International) replied with 15 points and 5 rebounds and forward Sokratis Gkelios (200-95) added 5 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Kavala. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ethnikos moved-up to seventh place.     Very expected game when 13th ranked Doxa Pefkon (10-20) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Aiolos Astakou (19-11) 73-65. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Doxa Pefkon won third quarter 26-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aiolos Astakou had a 28-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for center Nikos Libaris-Psomas (210-84) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds.     Not a big story in a game in Thessaloniki where 7th ranked Amyntas Dafnis (15-15) was outplayed by second ranked Iraklis (26-4) 82-50. Iraklis dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Amyntas Dafnis' 18. They outrebounded Amyntas Dafnis 42-21 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for guard Kostas Totsios (191-78) who led his team to a victory with 16 points and 4 assists. Swingman Dimitrios Kalaitzidis (198-85, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Forward Spyros Diamantopoulos (197-83) replied with 13 points and forward Andriano Topalis (201-87) added 6 points in the effort for Amyntas Dafnis.
