Greek A1 round 21 best performance: Latoya Williams - Mar 19, 2012

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

American center Latoya Williams (193-C-87) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked Esperides, receiving a Player of the Week award for round 21.
The 24-year old player had a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds, while her team beat DAS Ano Liosa (#6, 11-10) 73-62. Esperides maintains the 2nd position in Greek A1. They are still close to the very top. Esperides would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 17-4 record. Williams turned to be Esperides' top player in her first season with the team. Former Chipola JC star has very solid stats this year. Williams is league's best scorer averaging so far 23.3ppg and leads league in rebounds with 14.1rpg. Williams is in league's top in and averages impressive 1.4bpg,2.4spg and 55.2% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 31-year old Serbian Milena Vukicevic (188-F/C-80) of Kronos AD. Vukicevic had a very good evening with a double-double of 20 points and 17 rebounds. Bad luck as Kronos AD was edged by slightly higher-ranked Aris (8-13) 51-48. This loss caused Kronos AD to drop to 9th position in the standings. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 8-13 record. Vukicevic is a newcomer at Kronos AD, but is already one of team's top players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.5ppg (#4). She also registered 10.5 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Quenese Davis (178-G-88) of PAOK (#10). Davis scored 25 points and passed four assists. She was a key player of PAOK, leading her team to a 79-69 win against the higher-ranked Asteras (#5, 11-10). The chances of PAOK not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 14 games, recording just seven victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Davis could try to bring PAOK's a little bit higher in the standings. Davis has individually a great season in Greece. After 16 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.7ppg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Diana Delva (188-F/C) of Panathinaikos - 21 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Nafsika Stavridou (182-G-86) of Aris - 20 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists
6. Shakara Jones (187-F-88) of Asteras - 11 points and 14 rebounds
7. Ioanna Diela (175-F-90) of DAS Ano Liosa - 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Froso Vlachou (192-C-82) of Athinaikos - 12 points and 9 rebounds
9. Stavroula Spanidou (180-G/F-84) of PAOK - 12 points and 10 rebounds
10. Aristea Maglara (168-G-83) of Panathinaikos - 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
