Alexis Kiritsis (198-G-82) signed today his new contract with Ikaros Kalitheas. The Greek guard is a terrific addition for coach Priftis as he is one of the best scorers in A1 league the last years. Kiritsis is famous for his one on one skills and driving ability. He thrives on transition offense and knows very well how to earn fouls and score easy points from the charity line. Team manager Stauros Elliniadis along with coach Priftis decided to strengthen the Greek element in their roster instead of taking one more American. Kiritsis will play at ''2'' and ''3'' spots joining two other newcomers in the perimeter, Michalis Giannakidis (192-G-88) and Zoran Vrkic (200-G/F-87). Ikaros is one of the best organized and financially solvent clubs in A1 and has the potential to be the Greek league's surprise this year..

According to most online and printed sports media, the the top scorer and top stealer, together with the top rebounder and one of the most improved player of the Greek league have joined forces with the six star team of Panathinaikos of Coach Pedoulakis. Vladimir Jankovic (202-F-90, agency: FCM) and Nikos Pappas (195-G-90, agency: FCM) will be wearing the Green uniforms of the team won the double this season.
The contracts for both players to be signed will be for three years duration and they will be officially announced within the next hours. According to most Greek media, the two team-mates of the Hellenic NT U16, U18, U21 and Panionios will continue being team-mates by doing the biggest step in their career with the Greens of Coach Pedoulakis. The two players will be (most probably) members and team-mates also in the Hellenic NT of Coach Andrea Trinchieri , for the 2013 summer competition.
With this move, the team of Panathinaikos is adding in the at most way some serious Hellenic blood in the team's roster and is "grabbing" two of the most talented and most promising players born in 1990, having all the future in front of them. The Green team at this stage is matching in a way with the Red team of Olympiakos, since the two youngsters will be competing their team-mates in the Greek NT, Evangelos Mantzaris (196-G-90), Konstantinos Sloukas (197-G-90) and Kostas Papanikolaou (206-F-90), and by the way all five of them formed the unbelievable group of the youth NT's being unbeaten in the European courts and all the competitions of their age during the years 2006-2010.
The next step for the six stars will be the renewal of the contracts of James Gist (he has agreed verbally), Stephan Lasme and Jonas Maciulis, and of course the typical part of renewing the captain and the brains of the team Dimitris Diamantidis

This season eurobasket.com
(Greek section) gives an award to the Greeks abroad and will award the
top ten Greeks (two solid teams) playing in foreign leagues.
1st Team
Pat Calathes (208-G/F-85, college: St.Joseph's) (Kalathis) - Forward of Maccabi Haifa. The Greek American forward in
his best season since he left USA for Europe succeeded something unique and
something unbelievable in Israel, having in mind that he joined forces (last
summer) with a team which had nothing to present, nor a success story, not a
trophy not anything in the previous seasons, in a league where the domination
of Maccabi Tel Aviv is something which can't be doubt by anybody and with the
Israelis simply playing for the second seat every year since the top seat is
occupied by the one and only team from Tel Aviv. Pat left from Panathinaikos
and joined forces with the middle-class Maccabi Bazan Haifa to simply lead them
to an amazing title against the team of David Blat. The Greek forward was
amazing in his most solid performance, as he ended the season with 16.3 points,
9.3 rebounds per game being the 5th rebounder of the league, and 2.1
assists, was the MVP of the finals and the main reason of the first trophy won
by the Cinderella of the Israeli league.
Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-C-84) - Forward / center of Regal FC Barcelona and Spartak
St.Petersburg, joined in May, 2013 the power house of Catalonia, and kept his
rhythm more or less in the same paste, helping Barcelona to claim the trophy
against Real Madrid in a fifth game. Loukas was the top man in his team in the
Russian and VTB league, with 15.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3
steals per game, being an all- around forward with great percentages from
behind the arc 43-47% and good defense, those were also the basic elements
scouted from Barcelona people and the biggest step in the Greek forward's
career took place 2 months ago. In Catalonia, Loukas
is very steady and is among the keys of the Spaniards. No matter what the
result will be in the 5th and final game of the play-offs, Loukas
convinced all the basketball experts that he is made of very good quality and
he can play basketball in the highest possible level of Euroleague.
Nick Calathes (198-PG-89, college: Florida) (Kalathis) - PG of Lokomotiv Kuban, the younger brother
of Pat, left Panathinaikos last summer and joined forces with the Russian
Lokomotiv a team which had nothing to show and its only achievement was the
semi-finals in the Baltic league a year before. This team though changed in
total as with the leading figure of the young Greek American player, the team
was able to fight until the end with the Russian power house CSKA Moscow and
final to lose the champion in the finals. Nic was amazing this
season, he ended the period as the top player in assist with nearly 7 assists
per game while his nearly 14 points per game and his 1.6 steals helped his team
to tour into the best season ever. In the finals against CSKA, Nic did his best
but the quality and experience of the opponents was obvious.
Kostas Vasiliadis (200-G/F-84, agency: FCM)- SG of Bizkaia Bilbao, the experienced
international shooting guard in his third and final season in Bilbao succeeded
a bit less than last year where his team knocked out Barcelona, (this season
his team was eliminated by the Catalonians), but this season was definitely the
most productive and solid season ever for the Greek player. With 14 points per
game, 3.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1 steal per game; Kostas succeeded a full
period in both Spanish and Euro-cup proving that he is ready to take the next
level in his career. An injury cost him a bit this season but after his
comeback he continue to lead his team even though unpaid as he claimed in the
last six months. He is a real scoring machine and his game has changed a lot
the last years as he competed against top performers in the Spanish league and
beat them in all edges. Kostas new career stop
will prove once more to everybody that his qualities and abilities are much
appreciated by the European basketball. Kostas Koufos (213-C-89, college: Ohio St.) of Denver Nuggets, the international Greek center did a wonderful
season in the NBA with the team of Denver Nuggets in his most solid career
after 5 consecutive seasons in the magic world. Kostas earn with his sword the
trust of his Coach who gave him time in the court and Kostas proved to have
what it needs to proceed further, besides he is only 23-24 years old so he has
all the time in front of him. Kostas played in 87
games this season and averaged 22 minutes in the court, he had nearly 8 points
per game, 7 rebounds, 1.2 block shots and 0.5 steals per game in his most solid
season ever. Denver's 57 victories this season (57-25) has been achieved
partially with Kostas assistance, with his best game being the one against
Phoenix Suns where he scored 22 points and dashed down 10 rebounds succeeding a
double-double figures in just 26 minutes!
2nd Team
Nikolaos Zisis (197-G-83) of Bizkaia Bilbao, the international guard did a very good season with
the team from Bilbao and was among the stand outs in many cases for the Spanish
team. The injure of Vasiliadis somewhere in the middle of the season pushed
Zisis to gain some more quality time in the court and he proved that he can
make it to the top level with the same ease. Nikos ended the season
with 10 points, 3.5 assist, nearly 2 rebounds, and 0.5 steal in less than 25
minutes. He helped his team and his team-mates for the best and he was among
the more solid player in his team. Ioannis Bourousis (213-C-83, agency: FCM) of Armani Bilbao, the international center did
ok in the Italian club even though he had a late start, after the middle of the
season he became steadier and helped his team in the best feasible way. If he
was steadier he and his team would have achieved more than they did. Bourousis ended the
season with 11.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
Dusan Sakota (209-SF-86, agency: Beo Basket) of Ciberio Vareze, the international forward had a solid season with
the Italian club and he helped them to reach the semi-finals of the Italian
league where they lost in the 7th game of the play-offs. Dusan was among the stand-outs
of his team and especially in the play-offs period he had a series of great
games. He ended the season with 8.5 points per game, 2.4 rebound and 1 steal in
his comeback to the real action and after his serious health problem. Dusan is
a fighter and he proved it. We believe that his career now will take its normal
path as this season was the stepping stone of something much better.
Kostas Kaimakoglou (206-C/F-83) of Uniks Kazan, the international forward was
probably the top performer of his team but an injury cut his speed, at the
middle of the season. Kostas together with Ian Vougioukas (212-C/F-85, college: St.Louis), tried to take up the
Russian club but unfortunately for them they finally didn't make it. No matter
what though, Kostas was amazing. He ended the period with 13 points (an average
of all three competitions he played) 6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals per
game, being in the court for 33 minutes and gaining the total trust of his Head
Coach. Kostas's performance
was solid and steady, exactly as it was with Maroussi and Panathinaikos in the
previous seasons where he upgrades both his game and his career.
Ian Vougioukas (212-C/F-85, college: St.Louis) of Uniks Kazan, the international center did a
solid season in the Russian club and he ended a pretty steady career as the
second center in the team, Ian's numbers were
very good as he ended the season with 10.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists
and 1 steal. His real time in the court was less than 23 minutes, but he gave
his best self being also among the stand outs of his team. It is worth saying
that upon playing together with Kaimakoglou in the court his performance was
even better.
