Aggelopoulos Bros: Euroleague needs changes - Sep 21, 2012

POSTED BY:
KOSTAS PAPADOPOULOS

Kostas's Articles

The Euroleague champions had their media day last Tuesday, for the needs of Euroleague, and their owners, Panagiotis and George Aggelopoulos made an impressive appearance with their statements on the goals of the team and their rivalry with Panathinaikos.
"I wish for a good season. My dream is to be in London on May. Our team is the same by 11/14 since last season. They say that now they know us. If they do so, then let them come and play against us! I dont know how many teams won the Euroleague and kept their roster on the next season", Panagiotis Aggelopoulos said.
About the financial situation in Euroleague, Panagiotis Aggelopoulos stated: "We won the title and our bonus was 250.000 euros. I believe Friday is a good day for Euroleague games and we will have more fans in our arena. We have sold just 500 season tickets, we are Euroleague champions and we want our fans by our side. There are efforts in order to grow in other markets, like the UK and Germany, but this is not enough. Especially in Germany, there is wealth there. There is free time and money to spend in order to enjoy basketball (referring to the game between Alba Berlin against Bayern with almost 9.000 fans in the gym). Euroleague needs changes, otherwise only the Russian and the Turks will continue to spend money".

Being asked about the new coach of the team, Bartzokas, the owner of Olympiacos replied: "We have been following his work all those years. We appreciate him and believe that he is the best Greek coach and he can run the team".
On the other side, George Aggelopoulos, co-owner of Olympiakos, preferred to emphasize on what Dimitris Giannakopoulos, the president of Panathinaikos, stated about Olympiacos in an interview few days before. And mainly referring on Giannakopoulo's quote that Olympiacos should always have as its main goal in the Greek league the second place, making also a comment on a possible tax evasion by Panathinaikos, he stated: "I agree. With the current members of the central refereeing board being the same, Olympiacos is the favourite for the second place. It was also like this last year. We also heard that Mr. Giannakopoulos said that his teams budget was 35 million euros. We referred to the published balanced sheet of Panathinaikos. The total expenses seemed to be 13 million euros! So, one of those numbers is wrong. Our share capital is 75 million euros. Panathinaikos share capital is 300.000 euros. You can make your own conclusions, I dont want to say something more".

Savas Chrysopoulos claims Greek A2 weekly honour - 19 hours ago

Savas Chrysopoulos (200-F-89) had a great game in the last round for league's second-best Iraklis and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com A2 Player of the Week award for round 9. A2 Round 9: Panionios edge Aiolos Astakou by one point - 1 day ago

The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with derby games, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Seventh-ranked Aiolos Astakou (4-5) made lots of trouble for leader Panionios (9-0) on Saturday. The visitors from Athens managed to secure only one-point victory 78-77. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 9 points after three quarters before their 21-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Th...   [read more]
