Former international guard Nikos Pappas (195-G-90, agency: FCM) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Panionios, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 3. The 22-year old player was the main contributor (32 points, eight rebounds) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Kavala (#14, 0-3), the league's bottom-ranked team 87-84. Panionios maintains the 3rd position in Greek A1. They maintain perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Panionios already had a very good start winning all 3 without losing a single one. In the team's last game Pappas had a remarkable four three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He turned to be Panionios' top player in his first season with the team. Nikos Pappas has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (3rd best: 19.3ppg).
The second best player in last round's games was 25-year old American Kevin Palmer (198-G/F-87) of KAOD. Palmer had a very good evening with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Of course KAOD cruised to a 89-78 relatively comfortable win over PAOK (1-2). The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let's wait for the next round. Palmer is a newcomer at KAOD, but is already one of team's top players.
Third on the list of top players last round was Russian center Lazaros Papadopoulos (210-C-80) of PAOK (#7). Papadopoulos got into 30-points club by scoring 31 points in the last round. He went also for six rebounds and four assists. Despite Papadopoulos' great performance PAOK lost 78-89 to KAOD (#4, 2-1). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of PAOK not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 2 games, recording just one victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Papadopoulos could try to bring PAOK's a little bit higher in the standings. Papadopoulos has individually a great season in Greece. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.0ppg (8th best). Lazaros Papadopoulos has also Greek passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
