We bring you last week's top performances from Greeks who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Kostas Vasiliadis (200-84, agency: FCM, currently plays in Eurocup). He was the major contributor in an overtime Gescrap BB's victory against the closely-ranked Buducnost (0-1) 85-78 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. Vasiliadis recorded 17 points and added 4 assists in 37 minutes on the court. It was his first game for Gescrap BB this season. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. His team is placed first in the Eurocup. Vasiliadis is currently fourth on the league's list of best blockers with 1 blocks. He is currently a member of the Greek senior national team.

Second place goes to an international guard Nikolaos Zisis (197-83, currently plays in Eurocup) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kostas Vasiliadis and both played together in the last Eurocup game. Zisis led his Spanish team Gescrap BB to an overtime victory against the closely-ranked Buducnost (0-1) 85-78. He recorded 14 points and added 6 assists. It was his first game for Gescrap BB this season. Zisis belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #6. He is in the roster of the Greek senior national team.

   #3. The Greek player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Kostas Kaimakoglou (206-83, currently plays in Eurocup). Kaimakoglou led his Russian team Unics Kazan to a victory over the closely-ranked Stelmet ZG (0-1) 74-67 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. He was MVP of the game. Kaimakoglou recorded 19 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 33 minutes. It was his first game for Unics Kazan this season. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. His team is placed second in the Eurocup. Kaimakoglou is also a member of the Greek senior national team.

Center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84, currently plays in Eurocup) contributed to a Spartak St.Petersburg's victory against the closely-ranked Cibona (0-1) 64-56 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. He recorded 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. It was his first game for Spartak St.Petersburg this season. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. His team is placed second in the Eurocup. Mavrokefalidis used to play for the Greek national team last year.

   #5. International center Kostas Koufos (213-89, college: Ohio St., currently plays in NBA) helped Denver Nuggets win their game against the Detroit Pistons (0-5) 109-97 in the NBA last Tuesday. He scored 14 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 30 minutes. The Denver Nuggets have 2-3 record this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. This year Koufos averages: 6.6ppg and 5.6rpg in the five games he played so far. He is a naturalized American. Koufos used to play for the Greek national team last year. Strangely he has never played in Greece.

   #6. Power forward Ian Vougioukas (212-85, college: St.Louis, currently plays in Russia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kostas Kaimakoglou. But that was another game of his team in Russian PBL which we would like to mention. Vougioukas helped Unics Kazan win their game against the closely-ranked Lokomotiv (2-3) crushing them 75-47. He recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Unics Kazan (1-1) is placed seventh in the PBL. It's Vougioukas' first season with the team. Vougioukas has relatively good stats this year: 11.5ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.5bpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Greek National Team roster.

   #7. International forward Antonis Fotsis (209-81, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Italy could not help Armani Milano (2-2) in their last game on Thursday. Despite his good performance the fourth-placed Armani Milano was defeated 92-87 on the road by the leading Zalgiris in the group C of Euroleague. Fotsis recorded 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Fotsis' overall stats this season are: 8.3ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.3apg. He is also Greek national team player.

   #8. Center Stavros Toutziarakis (210-87, also represented by FCM, currently plays in Sweden) helped Solna Vikings win their game against one of league's weakest teams Eco Orebro (3-6) 86-72 in the Swedish Basketligan on Tuesday night. Toutziarakis had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 13 rebounds in 29 minutes. Solna Vikings (5-4) is placed sixth in the Basketligan. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Toutziarakis is ranked sixth on the list of the best rebounders in the league with 8.2rpg. This year his other stats are: 12.4ppg and 1.7apg in the nine games. Toutziarakis used to play for the Greek U20 national team back in 2007.

An experienced former international forward Mihalis Kakiouzis (206-76, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Switzerland) helped SAV Vacallo win their n overtime game against the closely-ranked Lugano Tigers (3-2) 96-90 in the Swiss LNA on Saturday night. Kakiouzis scored 18 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. SAV Vacallo Basket (4-1) is placed first in the LNA. This season Kakiouzis has relatively solid stats: 13.0ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.8apg. He used to play for the Greek national team five years ago.

Point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida, currently plays in Eurocup) helped his Russian team Lokomotiv win their game against the closely-ranked BC Donetsk (0-1) 78-75 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. Calathes recorded 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 16 minutes. It was his first game for Lokomotiv this season. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. His team is placed second in the Eurocup. Calathes is a naturalized American. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Greek National Team roster. Calathes used to play for 3-year contract with Panathinaikos Athens in Greek league.

   #11. Former international swingman Georgios Diamantopoulos (196-80, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in EuroChallenge) was not able to help Keravnos in their game against Krasnie Krilya in the EuroChallenge. Diamantopoulos recorded 9 points in 30 minutes. It was his first game for Keravnos this season. His team lost 74-79. He used to play for the Greek national team nine years ago.

   #12. Former international forward Nikos Barlos (203-79, currently plays in Italy) helped C.de Latte BRE edge the 12th-ranked Prima Veroli 82-80 in the Italian Lega2 (second division) in Sunday night's game. Barlos scored 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. This year his overall stats are: 9.6ppg, 4.4rpg and 1.2spg in the five games. Barlos used to play for the Greek national team back in 2005.

   #13. Former international forward Christos Tapoutos (203-82, currently plays in Turkey) was not able to secure a victory for Olin Edirne in their game against Galatasaray in the Turkish TBL. He recorded 6 points and added 3 passes in 28 minutes. It was his first game for Olin Edirne this season. His team was badly defeated by 19 points 81-62. Tapoutos used to play for the Greek national team seven years ago.

   #14. Former University international center Giorgos Galiotos (213-86, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in Bulgaria) couldn't help Euroins Cherno More in their game against Balkan in the Bulgarian NBL. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. His team was defeated 82-73. Galiotos is currently fifth on the list of best rebounders. His total stats this season are: 4.0ppg and 7.7rpg. Galiotos used to play for the Greek university national team back in 2009.

   #15. Former international guard Emmanouil Papamakarios (192-80, currently plays in Spain) helped Lagun Aro GBC edge in an overtime one of league's weakest teams Assignia Manresa 89-88 in the Spanish ACB last Sunday. He scored 6 points in 21 minutes. This year Papamakarios' total stats are: 2.8ppg, 1.3rpg and 1.5apg in the six games. He used to play for the Greek national team seven years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Greek passport but never been selected to any of Greek national teams:

   #1. Sten-Timmu Sokk (181-PG-89, currently plays in Georgia) was the major contributor in Olimpi's victory against the ninth-ranked Batumi (0-3) crushing them 94-63 in the Georgian Superleague in Saturday night's game. Sokk scored 16 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 6 assists in a mere 19 minutes. Olimpi Tbilisi (2-0) is placed fourth in the Superleague. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Sokk is currently second on the league's list of best passers with 6.5apg. He also averaged so far 13.5ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.5spg in the two games he played so far. Sokk has a dual citizenship: Greek and Estonian.

   #2. Dan Mavraides (193-G-88, college: Princeton, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA could not help Air Avellino (2-4) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance Air Avellino was defeated 79-67 on the road by the much higher-ranked Cantu (#3). Mavraides was the second best scorer with 13 points. He also added 5 passes. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Mavraides' overall stats this season are: 8.0ppg and 2.8apg. He is a naturalized American. Mavraides used to play for Aris Thessaloniki in Greek league.

   #3. Angelo Tsagarakis (190-G-84, currently plays in France) led Chalons-Reims to a victory over the 12th-ranked SO Maritime Boulogne (3-4) 95-82 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. He was the best player in that game. Tsagarakis recorded 26 points (!!!) in 38 minutes. Chalons-Reims (4-3) is placed seventh in the ProB. This year Tsagarakis has relatively solid stats: 12.1ppg and 1.7rpg in the seven games. He is another player who holds two passports: Greek and French. Despite Tsagarakis' Greek nationality, he previously played for the French U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Greek team.

   #4. Nicholas Livas (198-G-87, college: Ill.-Springfield, currently plays in Germany) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg crushing them 108-68 in the German ProA (second division) last Sunday. He scored 14 points, grabbed 7 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 3 balls. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BG Goettingen (6-2) is placed first in the ProA. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Livas' overall stats this season are: 9.8ppg, 6.3rpg, 3.5apg and 1.8spg. He is a naturalized American. Apparently Livas has never played in Greece.

   #5. Angelos Tsamis (192-G-81, currently plays in France) was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Limoges CSP Elite (2-3) in their game against JDA Dijon (2-3) in the French ProA, despite his good performance on Saturday night. He was the second best scorer with 10 points. Tsamis also added 7 assists in 22 minutes. But Limoges CSP Elite lost 65-69 in JDA Dijon to the higher-ranked (#10) JDA Dijon.    #7. Giannis Demertzis (194-PG-83, currently plays in Cyprus) contributed to a 2-point Keravnos' victory against the sixth-ranked Apoel 68-66 in the Cypriot Division A on Friday night. Demertzis scored 6 points and added 5 passes. Demertzis is ranked fifth on the list of the best passers in the league. His overall stats this season are: 5.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 4.0apg and 1.5spg.

   #8. Experienced Alexey Savrasenko (215-C-79, currently plays in Eurocup) contributed to a 3-point Lokomotiv's victory against the closely-ranked BC Donetsk 78-75 in the Eurocup last Wednesday. He recorded 6 points. It was his first game for Lokomotiv this season. Savrasenko has both Greek and Russian nationalities.

   #9. Antonis Sivorotka (203-F-85, currently plays in Germany) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Finke Baskets 95-76 in the German ProA (second division) on Sunday night. Sivorotka scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. He has averaged so far 4.3ppg and 2.4rpg.

   #10. Mannos Nakos (179-PG-88, currently plays in Sweden) couldn't help Uppsala Basket in their game against Norrkoping Dolphins in the Swedish Basketligan. Nakos recorded 5 points and added 4 assists in 15 minutes. His team lost 87-94. He has averaged so far 6.0ppg, 1.5rpg and 2.5apg in the eight games. Nakos also holds two passports: Greek and Swedish.
