Here is the weekly review of the top performing Greek players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84, currently plays in VTB United League). He led his Russian team Spartak St.Petersburg to a victory over the eighth-ranked Azovmash (1-4) 81-76 in the VTB United League in Sunday night's game. Mavrokefalidis was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 30 points and getting 10 rebounds. Mavrokefalidis also added 5 assists in 37 minutes on the court. Spartak St.Petersburg (5-0) is placed first in group A. So far his team won all five games in the Regular Season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Mavrokefalidis has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.0ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 56.9%(33-58) and FT: 92.9% in the five games he played so far. Mavrokefalidis played for the Greek senior national team one years ago.

Kostas Vasiliadis

   #2. Second place goes to an international swingman Kostas Vasiliadis (200-84, agency: FCM, currently plays in Eurocup). He was the main contributor in a Gescrap BB's victory against the closely-ranked Spirou Charleroi (0-2) 85-69 in the Eurocup last Tuesday. Vasiliadis was the best player in that game. He scored 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line). It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Gescrap Bizkaia Bilbao Basket (2-0) is placed first in the Eurocup. There are only four games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This season Vasiliadis has very high stats. He averages: 17.0ppg, 4.0rpg, 3.0apg, 2.0spg and FT: 83.3%. Vasiliadis is in the roster of the Greek senior national team.

   #3. The Greek player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Kostas Kaimakoglou (206-83, currently plays in VTB United League), who plays in Russia. He could not help Unics Kazan (3-2) in their last game. Despite Kaimakoglou's very good performance the fourth-placed Unics Kazan lost 74-85 on the road to the second-ranked Khimky in the group A of VTB United League. He was the top scorer with 20 points. Kaimakoglou also added made 3 passes and 4 steals in 28 minutes. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Kaimakoglou has relatively good stats this year: 14.8ppg, 6.0rpg, 2.0apg, 2.2spg, 2FGP: 53.1% and FT: 88.9% in the five games. He is also a member of the Greek senior national team.

Nikolaos Zisis

   #4. Guard Nikolaos Zisis (197-83, currently plays in Eurocup) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kostas Vasiliadis and both played together in the last Eurocup game. Zisis was the major contributor in a Gescrap BB's victory against the closely-ranked Spirou Charleroi (0-2) 85-69. He scored 14 points and added 9 passes. It's Zisis' first season with the team. Zisis is currently second on the league's list of best passers. He has very reliable stats this season: 14.0ppg and 7.5apg. Zisis is also Greek national team player.

   #5. International power forward Ian Vougioukas (212-85, college: St.Louis, currently plays in Eurocup) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kostas Kaimakoglou. But that was another game of his team in Eurocup which we would like to mention. Vougioukas contributed to an Unics Kazan's victory against the closely-ranked Base Oostende (1-1) 83-72. He was the top player that evening. Vougioukas scored 20 points in a mere 19 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Unics Kazan (2-0) is placed first in the Eurocup. This year Vougioukas has relatively solid stats: 15.0ppg and 4.5rpg in the two games. He plays currently for the Greek national team.

   #6. Point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida, currently plays in Eurocup) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Trefl Sopot (0-2) crushing them 99-79 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. Calathes scored 16 points and added 6 passes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Lokomotiv Kuban (2-0) is placed second in the Eurocup. There are only four games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Calathes has reliable stats this season: 12.5ppg, 4.5rpg and 3.0apg. He is a naturalized American. Calathes is an international player who is currently on the senior Greek National Team roster. He used to play for 3-year contract with Panathinaikos Athens in Greek league.

   #7. International center Kostas Koufos (213-89, college: Ohio St., currently plays in NBA) contributed to an easy victory against the Utah Jazz (4-5) crushing them 104-84 in the NBA in Friday night's game. Koufos had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 3 blocks in 25 minutes. The Denver Nuggets have 4-4 record this season. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Koufos' stats this year are: 7.4ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.9bpg in the eight games. He is a naturalized American. Koufos used to play for the Greek national team last year. Strangely he has never played in Greece.

   #8. Forward Antonis Fotsis (209-81, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA was not able to help one of league's weakest teams Armani Milano (3-4) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Fotsis' good performance Armani Milano was defeated 105-100 in Venezia by the higher-ranked Umana (#8). He recorded 12 points. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Fotsis' overall stats this season are: 10.0ppg and 4.4rpg. He plays currently for the Greek national team.

   #9. Former U20 international small forward Dusan Sakota (209-86, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Italy) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Angelico Biella (1-6) 77-60 in the Italian SerieA on Sunday night. Sakota recorded 6 points in 17 minutes. Cimberio Varese (7-0) is placed first in the SerieA. So far his team won all seven games in the Regular Season. This year Sakota's overall stats are: 6.3ppg and 2.6rpg in the seven games. He used to play for the Greek U20 national team six years ago.

An experienced forward Nikos Barlos (203-79, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a 3-point C.de Latte BRE's victory against the eighth-ranked Tezenis VE (3-3) 80-77 in the Italian Lega2 (second division) last Sunday. Barlos scored 14 points, had 5 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 6 balls (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 28 minutes. Centrale del Latte Brescia (4-2) is placed third in the Lega2. Barlos averaged so far 10.3ppg, 4.5rpg and 2.0spg in the six games. He is a former international player as seven years ago he still played for the Greek senior national team.

   #11. Former U18 international forward Fotios Lampropoulos (206-83, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an CB Canarias' victory against the closely-ranked Cajasol 79-68 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. He recorded 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Lampropoulos' total stats this season are: 8.1ppg and 2.7rpg. He used to play for the Greek U18 national team nine years ago.

   #12. Former international forward Christos Tapoutos (203-82, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Antalya 83-65 in the Turkish TBL last Saturday. Tapoutos scored 7 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 27 minutes. This year Tapoutos' total stats are: 6.5ppg, 5.5rpg and 2.5apg in the two games. He used to play for the Greek national team back in 2005.

   #13. Former international forward Mihalis Kakiouzis (206-76, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Switzerland) contributed to a SAV Vacallo's victory against the eighth-ranked Neuchatel 79-67 in the Swiss LNA last Saturday. Kakiouzis scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. He averaged so far 13.4ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.4apg. Kakiouzis used to play for the Greek national team five years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international center Stavros Toutziarakis (210-87, also represented by FCM, currently plays in Sweden), who plays in the Swedish Basketligan was not able to secure a victory for Solna Vikings (5-5) in their last game. Despite his good performance Solna Vikings was edged 85-82 in Sundsvall by the second-ranked Dragons. Toutziarakis scored 12 points and added 5 assists in 28 minutes. Toutziarakis is currently seventh on the league's list of best rebounders with 7.8rpg. This year his other stats are: 12.5ppg and 1.6apg in the 10 games. Toutziarakis used to play for the Greek U20 national team back in 2007.

   #15. Former international swingman Georgios Diamantopoulos (196-80, another player represented by Interperformances, currently plays in EuroChallenge) couldn't help Keravnos in their game against Krasnie Krilya in the EuroChallenge. He recorded 9 points. It was his first game for Keravnos this season. His team was defeated 79-74. Diamantopoulos used to play for the Greek national team nine years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Greek passport but never been selected to any of Greek national teams:

   #1. Experienced Alexey Savrasenko (215-C-79, currently plays in Eurocup) contributed to a 3-point Lokomotiv's victory against the closely-ranked BC Donetsk (0-2) 78-75 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. Savrasenko recorded 6 points. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Lokomotiv Kuban (2-0) is placed second in the Eurocup. There are only four games left until the end of the Eurocup Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This season Savrasenko averages only 3.0ppg. He has a dual citizenship: Greek and Russian.

   #2. Angelo Tsagarakis (190-G-84, currently plays in France) led Chalons-Reims to a victory over the league outsider Bordeaux (1-8) crushing them 88-63 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night. Tsagarakis was the top player that evening. He scored 23 points, grabbed 4 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 3 balls (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line). Chalons-Reims (6-3) is placed fifth in the ProB. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Tsagarakis averaged so far 14.0ppg, 2.0rpg and 1.2apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Greek and French. Despite Tsagarakis' Greek nationality, he previously played for the French U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Greek team.

   #3. Nicholas Livas (198-G-87, college: Ill.-Springfield, currently plays in Germany) was the major contributor in a BG Goettingen's victory against one of league's weakest teams Oettinger Rockets Gotha (2-7) 82-69 in the German ProA (second division) in Saturday night's game. Livas had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 13 rebounds in 36 minutes. BG Goettingen (7-2) is placed first in the ProA. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Livas is currently seventh on the league's list of best rebounders with 7.6rpg. He also averaged so far 11.0ppg, 3.0apg and 1.4spg in the five games he played so far. Livas is a naturalized American. Apparently he has never played in Greece.

   #4. Pat Calathes (208-G/F-85, college: St.Joseph's, currently plays in Israel) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (3-2) crushing them 88-52 in the Israeli Winner League last Monday. Calathes scored 8 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Maccabi Bazan Haifa (3-2) is placed fourth in the Winner League. Calathes belongs to league's best rebounders and is ranked #6. This season he has very good stats: 11.4ppg, 10.2rpg, 2.4apg and 1.2spg. Calathes is a naturalized American. He used to play for Costa Cafe Marousi in Greek league.

   #5. Angelos Tsamis (192-G-81, currently plays in France), who plays in the French ProA could not help the league outsider Limoges CSP Elite (0-6) in their last game. Despite Tsamis' good performance Limoges CSP Elite lost 74-84 on the road to the much higher-ranked (#4) Paris-Levallois. He scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in a mere 18 minutes. So far Limoges CSP Elite lost all six games in the Regular Season. This year Tsamis' total stats are: 7.8ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.7apg in the six games.

   #6. Sten-Timmu Sokk (181-PG-89, currently plays in Georgia) contributed to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked TSU crushing them 98-51 in a derby game in the Georgian Superleague on Saturday night. Sokk recorded 6 points and added 9 passes. Sokk is currently second on the league's list of best passers. This season he has very good stats: 11.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 7.3apg and 1.7spg. Sokk has both Greek and Estonian nationalities.

   #7. Dan Mavraides (193-G-88, college: Princeton, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA was not able to help Air Avellino (2-5) in their last game. Despite his good performance Air Avellino was crushed 102-81 in Sassari by the second-ranked Banco di Sardegna. Mavraides recorded 12 points in 27 minutes. He has averaged so far 8.7ppg and 2.3apg in the six games. Mavraides is a naturalized American. He used to play for Aris Thessaloniki in Greek league.

   #8. Corey Petros (208-F/C-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to secure a victory for the Oakland in their game against the Boise State University in the NCAA, despite his very good performance last Tuesday. He had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 12 rebounds in 36 minutes. It was his first game for Oakland this season. But his team lost 80-88. Petros is a naturalized American. Apparently he has never played in Greece.

   #9. Alex Hill (196-G-90, college: Cornell, currently plays in Canada) contributed to an easy victory against the Gryphons 71-55 in the Canadian university league CIS in Friday night's game. Hill recorded 19 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 32 minutes. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Hill averages: 17.5ppg, 5.5rpg and 2.0apg in the two games. He also holds two passports: Greek and Canadian.

   #10. Giannis Demertzis (194-PG-83, currently plays in EuroChallenge) managed to help Keravnos Strovolou to win against the closely-ranked Joensuun Kataja 72-67 in the EuroChallenge last Wednesday. Demertzis scored only 3 points and added 9 passes. He has averaged so far 2.5ppg, 1.5rpg and 6.5apg.

AE Doxa Lefkadas (A1) signed 32-year old American power forward Kevin Johnson (201-84, college: Humboldt State). He has played for the last two seasons at Polfarmex Kutno in Polish TBL league. Eric Buckner (208-C/F-90, college: Georgia St., agency: David Lee Services) was injured in the game of Aris for the basketball champions league against AS Monaco Basket (29/11). Today he underwent and MRI that confirmed what the doctors were afraid of. The American player suffered a bone edema in the ankle and he is expected to be back to the courts after three months.
