Here is the weekly review of the top performing Greek players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Kostas Vasiliadis (200-84, agency: FCM, currently plays in Eurocup). He led his Spanish team Gescrap BB to a victory over the closely-ranked Lukoil Academik (2-3) crushing them 82-60 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. Vasiliadis was MVP of the game. He recorded 20 points in 21 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Gescrap Bizkaia Bilbao Basket (5-0) is placed first in the Eurocup. So far his team won all five games in the Regular Season. They will play only one more game in the Eurocup Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Vasiliadis has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.3ppg, 4.0rpg, 2.8apg, 1.8spg, 2FGP: 66.7% and FT: 83.3% in the four games he played so far. Vasiliadis is currently a member of the Greek senior national team.

Nick Calathes

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida, currently plays in VTB United League). He was the major contributor in Lokomotiv's victory against the ninth-ranked Neptunas (1-6) 95-83 in the VTB United League last Sunday. Calathes recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and making 13 passes. He also added 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Lokomotiv Kuban (5-2) is placed third in group B. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Calathes is currently eighth on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best passers (third place). This season he has very high stats. Calathes averages: 15.1ppg, 4.3rpg, 5.4apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 58.1%(36-62) and FT: 52.4%. He is a naturalized American. Calathes is in the roster of the Greek senior national team. He used to play for 3-year contract with Panathinaikos Athens in Greek league.

Ian Vougioukas

   #3. The Greek player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Ian Vougioukas (212-85, college: St.Louis, currently plays in Eurocup), who plays in Russia. Vougioukas could not help Unics Kazan (4-1) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the league leader Unics Kazan lost 76-91 on the road to the second-ranked Stelmet ZG. Vougioukas had a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added and 3 steals in 37 minutes. They ended the series of four consecutive victories. Vougioukas' team will play only one more game in the Eurocup Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Vougioukas has very impressive stats this year: 16.2ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.6apg, 2FGP: 74.4%(32-43) and FT: 81.0% in the five games. He is also a member of the Greek senior national team.

   #4. Guard Nikolaos Zisis (197-83, currently plays in Eurocup) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kostas Vasiliadis. But that was another game of his team in Eurocup which we would like to mention. Zisis was the main contributor in a 2-point Gescrap BB's victory against the closely-ranked Buducnost (3-2) 68-66. He was the best player in that game. Zisis scored 14 points and added 3 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Gescrap Bizkaia Bilbao Basket (5-0) is placed first in the Eurocup. So far his team won all five games in the Regular Season. Zisis is currently fifth on the list of best passers. He has very reliable stats this season: 10.8ppg, 1.2rpg and 5.4apg. Zisis is also Greek national team player.

International center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84, currently plays in Eurocup) contributed to a 3-point Spartak St.Petersburg's victory against the closely-ranked ratiopharm Ulm (2-3) 77-74 in the Eurocup last Wednesday. He was the top player that evening. Mavrokefalidis recorded 19 points in 24 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Spartak St.Petersburg (5-0) is placed first in the Eurocup. So far his team won all five games in the Regular Season. They will play only one more game in the Eurocup Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. Mavrokefalidis has relatively good stats this year: 12.2ppg, 5.0rpg and 2.4apg in the five games. He used to play for the Greek national team last year.

   #6. Power forward Kostas Kaimakoglou (206-83, currently plays in VTB United League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Ian Vougioukas. However that was another game of his team in VTB United League which brought him to that list. Kaimakoglou contributed to an Unics Kazan's victory against the closely-ranked Krasnie Krilya (4-3) 69-56. He was the top player that evening. Kaimakoglou recorded 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Unics Kazan (5-2) is placed third in group A. This season Kaimakoglou has relatively solid stats: 14.3ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.9apg and 2.0spg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Greek National Team roster.

   #7. International center Kostas Koufos (213-89, college: Ohio St., currently plays in NBA) contributed to a 3-point Denver Nuggets' victory against the Toronto Raptors (4-15) 113-110 in the NBA last Monday. Koufos recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting the same number of rebounds. The Denver Nuggets have 9-10 record this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Koufos' overall stats this year are: 6.3ppg, 5.9rpg and 1.6bpg. He is a naturalized American. Koufos used to play for the Greek national team last year. Strangely he has never played in Greece.

Center Giorgos Galiotos (213-86, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Bulgaria), who plays in the Bulgarian NBL was not able to help Euroins Cherno More (5-1) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the league leader Euroins Cherno More was crushed 100-66 in Sofia by the lower-ranked Levski (#3). Galiotos was the top scorer with 15 points. He also added 9 rebounds. Galiotos' team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is extremely important. Galiotos is currently fifth on the list of best rebounders. His overall stats this season are: 7.5ppg and 7.8rpg. Galiotos used to play for the Greek university national team back in 2009.

   #9. U18 international swingman Ioannis Papapetrou (203-94, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an Texas' surprising victory against the University of Texas at Arlington 70-54 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. He scored 17 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 24 minutes. The The University of Texas have conference record this season. This year Papapetrou's overall stats are: 8.8ppg, 3.5rpg, 6.8apg and 1.5spg in the six games. He is also in the roster of the Greek U18 national team.

Center Stavros Toutziarakis (210-87, also represented by FCM, currently plays in Sweden) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Nassjo (2-13) crushing them 88-61 in the Swedish Basketligan on Tuesday night. Toutziarakis scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 25 minutes. Solna Vikings (8-7) is placed seventh in the Basketligan. Toutziarakis is currently fifth on the league's list of best rebounders with 8.7rpg. This year his other stats are: 11.9ppg and 1.1apg in the 15 games. Toutziarakis is a former U20 international player as five years ago he still played for the Greek national team.

   #11. International forward Antonis Fotsis (209-81, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for Armani Milano in their game against Caja Laboral in the Euroleague. He scored 5 points. His team was edged 64-62. Fotsis' total stats this season are: 7.5ppg, 4.4rpg and 1.3apg. He plays currently for the Greek national team.

   #12. An experienced former international forward Nikos Barlos (203-79, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian Lega2 (second division) couldn't help C.de Latte BRE (5-3) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Barlos' good performance C.de Latte BRE was crushed 97-72 in Capo d'Orlando by the one of league's weakest teams Upea CdO (#14). He scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line). Barlos has reliable stats this season: 10.6ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.9spg. He used to play for the Greek national team back in 2005.

   #13. U20 international small forward Linos-Spyridon Chrysikopoulos (205-92, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Angelico Biella in their game against Sutor Montegranaro in the Italian SerieA. Chrysikopoulos recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 26 minutes. His team lost 75-82. This year Chrysikopoulos' total stats are: 4.2ppg, 2.1rpg and 1.2apg in the nine games. He is also Greek U20 national team player.

   #14. Former U18 international forward Fotios Lampropoulos (206-83, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help CB Canarias in their game against FIATC Joventut in the Spanish ACB. Lampropoulos recorded 8 points. His team was defeated 92-81. He has averaged so far 7.6ppg, 2.6rpg and 1.1apg. Lampropoulos used to play for the Greek U18 national team back in 2003.

   #15. Former international forward Christos Tapoutos (203-82, currently plays in Turkey) couldn't help Olin Edirne in their game against Turk Telekom in the Turkish TBL. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 22 minutes. His team was edged 81-78. Tapoutos has averaged so far 7.6ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.6apg in the five games. He used to play for the Greek national team seven years ago.

   #1. Pat Calathes (208-G/F-85, college: St.Joseph's, currently plays in Israel) led Maccabi Haifa to a victory against the ninth-ranked Bnei Hasharon (2-5) 91-86 in the Israeli Winner League in Monday night's game. Calathes scored 15 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 31 minutes. Maccabi Bazan Haifa (6-2) is placed second in the Winner League. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. It's Calathes' first season with the team. Calathes belongs to league's best rebounders and is ranked #6 with 9.4rpg. He also averaged so far 12.4ppg, 2.4apg and 1.3spg in the eight games he played so far. Calathes is a naturalized American. He used to play for Costa Cafe Marousi in Greek league.

   #2. Alex Hill (196-G-90, college: Cornell, currently plays in Canada), who plays in the Canadian university league CIS could not help the University of Toronto (4-3) in their last game. Despite Hill's very good performance the University of Toronto (#3) lost 82-87 on the road to the Marauders. He was the top scorer with 33 points. Hill also added 6 rebounds in 34 minutes. It was University of Toronto's third consecutive loss in a row. Hill is currently fifth on the league's list of top scorers with 20.4ppg. This year his other stats are: 6.3rpg, 2.8apg and 1.4spg in the eight games. Hill has a dual citizenship: Greek and Canadian.

   #3. Mannos Nakos (179-PG-88, currently plays in Sweden) was the major contributor in an Uppsala Basket's victory against the ninth-ranked KFUM Jamtland (4-11) crushing them 85-54 in the Swedish Basketligan last Friday. He scored 16 points in a mere 18 minutes. Uppsala Basket (11-4) is placed second in the Basketligan. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. It's Nakos' fourth season with the team. This year Nakos' overall stats are: 5.7ppg and 1.8apg in the 15 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Greek and Swedish.

   #4. Sten-Timmu Sokk (181-PG-89, currently plays in Georgia) contributed to Olimpi's victory against the closely-ranked Dinamo Tbilisi (3-3) 84-79 in a derby game in the Georgian Superleague on Saturday night. Sokk recorded 8 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Olimpi Tbilisi (5-1) is placed fourth in the Superleague. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. Sokk belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #3. His overall stats this season are: 8.8ppg, 3.5rpg, 6.8apg and 1.5spg. Sokk has both Greek and Estonian nationalities.

   #5. Experienced Alexey Savrasenko (215-C-79, currently plays in Eurocup) was not able to help Lokomotiv (3-2) in their game against BC Donetsk (2-3) in the Eurocup. Savrasenko cannot count Wednesday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Lokomotiv was defeated 71-64 at home by the lower-ranked BC Donetsk (#3). Savrasenko's team will play only one more game in the Eurocup Regular Season. Savrasenko's total stats this season are: 2.0ppg and 2.0rpg. He also holds two passports: Greek and Russian.

   #6. Nicholas Livas (198-G-87, college: Ill.-Springfield, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a BG Goettingen's victory against the league leader BV Chemnitz 99 76-69 in the German ProA (second division) last Saturday. Livas scored 9 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in 34 minutes. Livas is currently third on the list of best rebounders with 8.4rpg. This year he also averages: 10.3ppg, 2.8apg and 1.3spg in the eight games. Livas is a naturalized American. Apparently he has never played in Greece.

   #7. Angelo Tsagarakis (190-G-84, currently plays in France) helped Chalons-Reims win their game against the 13th-ranked Lille Metropole 67-55 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night. He scored 12 points (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line) in 30 minutes. Tsagarakis averaged so far 14.3ppg, 2.0rpg and 1.2apg in the 12 games. He has Greek and French nationalities. Despite Tsagarakis' Greek passport, he previously played for the French U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Greek team.

   #8. Corey Petros (208-F/C-93, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to secure a victory for the Oakland in their last game on Saturday. Despite Petros' good performance the Oakland was defeated 76-72 in Kalamazoo, MI by the Western Michigan University. He recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 10 rebounds. Petros averaged so far 14.3ppg, 2.0rpg and 1.2apg. He is a naturalized American. Apparently Petros has never played in Greece.

Christian Koutras (189-G-88, college: Cuesta JC, currently plays in Sweden) helped Akropol win their game against the third-ranked Umea 90-71 in the Swedish Basketettan (second division) last Sunday. He had a triple-double by scoring 16 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and passing 12 assists in 30 minutes. Koutras has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 18.2ppg, 7.2rpg, 10.8apg and 3.0spg in the five games. Koutras holds both Greek and Swedish passports. Despite his Greek nationality, Koutras previously played for the Swedish U20 national team and probably cannot be called to the Greek team.

   #10. Dan Mavraides (193-G-88, college: Princeton, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Air Avellino in their game against Montepaschi Siena in the Italian SerieA. He recorded 7 points. His team was crushed by 36 points 101-65. Mavraides has averaged so far 7.7ppg, 1.1rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1spg. He is a naturalized American. Mavraides used to play for Aris Thessaloniki in Greek league.

AEK Athens (A1) released 29-year old American swingman Malik Hairston (198-100kg-87, college: Oregon). Hairston played there last season where in 31 A1 games he had 8.7ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.8apg. Newly promoted ASP Promitheas Patras (A1) landed 23-year old forward Dimitris Gravas (203-93). He has played for the last two years at Doxa Pefkon in the A2.
