Kavala - Peristeri GS 84-79

Bottom-ranked Kavala managed to get the second consecutive victory on Saturday night. This time they won against eighth-ranked Peristeri GS 84-79. And what about a second win in a row after ...seven consecutive loses. Kavala made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Peristeri GS helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Naturalized American center Steve Panos (206-88, college: Weber St.) stepped up and scored 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and guard Yannis Gagaloudis (192-78) chipped in 19 points. Four Kavala players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Andreas Kanonidis (198-91) with 22 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Nontas Papantoniou (190-90) scored 14 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Peristeri GS's coach Tzimis Koustenis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kavala (2-7) moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Panelefsiniakos. Peristeri GS at the other side dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with Aris and KAOD. Kavala is looking forward to face higher ranked Panathinaikos (#4) in Athens in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Peristeri GS will play at home against Kolossos (#8) in Rodou and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
