Greek A1 round 9 best performance: Kostas Haralampidis - Dec 10, 2012

Point guard Kostas Haralampidis (189-PG-76) had a great game in the last round for PAOK, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9.
The 36-year old player was the main contributor (22 points, six rebounds and five assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Ilysiakos (#14, 1-8) 76-72. PAOK is placed at 3rd position in Greek A1. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. PAOK will need more victories to improve their 7-2 record. In the team's last game Haralampidis had a remarkable 60.0% from 2-point range. It was one of impressive evenings for him as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Kostas Haralampidis averages this season 11.0ppg.

The second best player in last round's games was 24-year old American Steve Panos (206-C-88) of Kavala. Panos had a very good evening with 17 points and 9 rebounds. It was enough for Kavala to edge the higher-ranked Peristeri GS (#9, 3-6) 84-79. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. But Kavala left the very bottom place moving slightly to 13th position. 7 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories Kavala managed to get this year. Panos is a newcomer at Kavala and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third on the list of top players last round was former international guard Giannis Kalambokis (195-G-78, agency: FCM) of Kolossos (#8). Kalambokis scored 23 points. He was a key player of Kolossos, leading his team to a 82-76 win against the lower-ranked KAOD (#11, 3-6). The chances of Kolossos ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 5 games, recording just four victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Kalambokis could help Kolossos to bring them higher in the standings. Kalambokis has a very solid season. In 9 games in Greece he scored 11.1ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Lazaros Papadopoulos (210-C-80) of PAOK - 15 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Guy-Marc Michel (213-C-88) of KAOD - 13 points and 8 rebounds
6. Marcus Hatten (186-PG-80) of Kolossos - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Larry Turner (210-C/F-82) of Apollon Patras - 6 points and 10 rebounds
8. Yannis Gagaloudis (192-G-78) of Kavala - 19 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Andreas Kanonidis (198-F-91) of Peristeri GS - 22 points and 6 rebounds
10. Kostas Charissis (212-C/F-79) of Aris - 10 points and 11 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Canterbury welcomes back Moore, ex Promitheas - 2 days ago
Canterbury Rams (NBL) landed 25-year old American guard McKenzie Moore (198-86kg-92, college: UTEP, agency: Two Points). It is actually his comeback to Rams as he has played here before. A1 Round 3 of Play-Offs. AGOR overcome Kolossos to advance - 3 days ago
AGOR - Kolossos HH 69-55 AGOR advanced into quarterfinal stage. They overcame Kolossos in the decider. The game was mostly controlled by AGOR. Kolossos HH managed to win second period 23-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for forward Haralampos Giannopoulos (200-89) who led his team to a victory with 20 points. American guard Walter Lemon-Jr (190-92, college: Bradley) contributed with 20 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line)...   [read more]

Giannis Antetokounmpo's 30 points make him top Greek player abroad of the week - 3 days ago
We bring you last week's top performances from Greeks who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international swingman Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-94, agency: Octagon Europe). He could not help the Milwaukee Bucks (42-40) in their last game. Despite Antetokounmpo's very good performance the Milwaukee Bucks (42-40) were crushed 118-93 on the road by the Toronto Raptors.    [read more]
