We bring you last week's top performances from Greeks who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Nikolaos Zisis (197-83, currently plays in Eurocup). He was the major contributor in a 1-point Gescrap BB's victory against the closely-ranked Spirou Charleroi (0-6) 85-84 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. Zisis scored 15 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 31 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Gescrap Bizkaia Bilbao Basket (6-0) is placed first in the Eurocup. So far his team won all six games in the Regular Season. The Regular Season already ended in the Eurocup. It's Zisis' first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 11.5ppg, 1.7rpg, 5.3apg, 2FGP: 51.6%, 3FGP: 53.8%(7-13) and FT: 72.7% in the six games he played so far. Zisis is currently a member of the Greek senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Ian Vougioukas (212-85, college: St.Louis, currently plays in Eurocup), who plays in Russia. He could not help Unics Kazan (5-1) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Vougioukas' very good performance the league leader Unics Kazan was defeated 91-76 on the road by the second-ranked Stelmet ZG. He recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 11 rebounds. Vougioukas also added and 3 steals. The Regular Season already ended in the Eurocup. Vougioukas has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 16.5ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 78.4%(40-51) and FT: 82.6%. Vougioukas is in the roster of the Greek senior national team.

   #3. The Greek player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84, currently plays in VTB United League). He led his Russian team Spartak St.Petersburg to a victory over the ninth-ranked PGE Turow (2-6) 63-59 in the VTB United League on Sunday night. Mavrokefalidis was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 11 rebounds in 31 minutes. Spartak St.Petersburg (6-1) is placed second in group A. Mavrokefalidis has very impressive stats this year: 16.3ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 50.6%, 3FGP: 28.6% in the seven games. He played for the Greek national team one years ago.

   #4. Swingman Kostas Vasiliadis (200-84, agency: FCM, currently plays in Spain) is a teammate of previously mentioned Nikolaos Zisis. But that was another game of his team in Spanish ACB which we would like to mention. Vasiliadis, who plays in the Spanish ACB was not able to help Gescrap BB (8-3) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance Gescrap BB was edged 79-76 at home by the much lower-ranked Cajasol (#15). Vasiliadis was the second best scorer with 15 points. He also added 3 assists. Vasiliadis belongs to league's top scorers and is ranked #9. He has very reliable stats this season: 13.9ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1spg. Vasiliadis is also Greek national team player.

   #5. International point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida, currently plays in Eurocup) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Trefl Sopot (1-5) 87-70 in the Eurocup last Wednesday. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and making 14 passes. Calathes also added 8 rebounds in 40 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Lokomotiv Kuban (4-2) is placed first in the Eurocup. The Regular Season already ended in the Eurocup. Calathes belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #2 with 6.5apg. This year he also averages: 14.7ppg and 6.5rpg in the six games. Calathes is a naturalized American. He plays currently for the Greek national team. Calathes used to play for 3-year contract with Panathinaikos Athens in Greek league.

Dusan Sakota

   #6. Small forward Dusan Sakota (209-86, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Italy) contributed to an easy victory against the 13th-ranked Sutor Montegranaro (3-8) 106-88 in the Italian SerieA on Sunday night. He scored 16 points. Cimberio Varese (10-1) is placed first in the SerieA. Sakota's overall stats this season are: 6.1ppg and 2.4rpg. He is a former U20 international player as he played for the Greek team six years ago.

   #7. International center Kostas Koufos (213-89, college: Ohio St., currently plays in NBA) contributed to a 3-point Denver Nuggets' victory against the Indiana Pacers (11-11) 92-89 in the NBA last Friday. Koufos scored 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The Denver Nuggets have 11-12 record this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Koufos' overall stats this year are: 6.8ppg, 5.9rpg and 1.5bpg. He is a naturalized American. Koufos used to play for the Greek national team last year. Strangely he has never played in Greece.

   #8. An experienced forward Mihalis Kakiouzis (206-76, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Switzerland) was the main contributor in a SAV Vacallo's victory against the league outsider Starwings (1-9) crushing them 76-56 in the Swiss LNA on Saturday night. Kakiouzis was the best player in that game. He recorded 22 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals in 35 minutes. SAV Vacallo Basket (8-2) is placed second in the LNA. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Kakiouzis has relatively solid stats: 13.9ppg, 7.1rpg, 1.9apg and 2.1spg in the seven games. He used to play for the Greek national team back in 2007.

   #9. International forward Antonis Fotsis (209-81, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Italy was not able to secure a victory for Armani Milano (3-6) in their last game on Friday. Despite Fotsis' good performance the fifth-placed Armani Milano was edged 67-65 in Kaunas by the leading Zalgiris in the group C of Euroleague. He scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Fotsis' team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Fotsis' overall stats this season are: 7.8ppg, 4.4rpg and 1.1apg. He is also in the roster of the Greek national team.

   #10. Forward Christos Tapoutos (203-82, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to an Olin Edirne's victory against the closely-ranked Erdemir (3-6) 91-82 in the Turkish TBL on Saturday night. Tapoutos scored 14 points. Olin Edirne Basketball (3-6) is placed tenth in the TBL. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Tapoutos' overall stats this year are: 8.7ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.3apg. He is a former international player as seven years ago he still played for the Greek senior national team.

   #11. Former U20 international center Stavros Toutziarakis (210-87, also represented by FCM, currently plays in Sweden) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Nassjo crushing them 88-61 in the Swedish Basketligan in Tuesday night's game. Toutziarakis scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 25 minutes. Toutziarakis is ranked fifth on the list of the best rebounders in the league with 8.7rpg. He also averaged so far 11.9ppg and 1.1apg in the 15 games. Toutziarakis used to play for the Greek U20 national team five years ago.

   #12. Former U18 international forward Fotios Lampropoulos (206-83, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an CB Canarias' victory against the closely-ranked Baloncesto Fuenlabrada 73-65 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. He scored 6 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 3 blocks. Lampropoulos' overall stats this season are: 7.5ppg, 3.1rpg and 1.2apg. He used to play for the Greek U18 national team back in 2003.

   #13. U20 international small forward Linos-Spyridon Chrysikopoulos (205-92, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Angelico Biella in their game against Cantu in the Italian SerieA. He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Chrysikopoulos scored only 2 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 26 minutes. His team was crushed by 23 points 85-62. This year his overall stats are: 4.0ppg, 2.8rpg and 1.5apg in the 10 games. Chrysikopoulos is also Greek U20 national team player.

   #14. Former international guard Emmanouil Papamakarios (192-80, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Lagun Aro GBC in their game against G.Canaria 2014 in the Spanish ACB. Papamakarios scored 7 points in 29 minutes. His team was crushed by 22 points 94-72. This year his total stats are: 2.7ppg, 1.6rpg and 1.2apg in the 11 games. Papamakarios used to play for the Greek national team back in 2005.

   #15. Former international forward Nikos Barlos (203-79, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help C.de Latte BRE in their game against Aget Service IM in the Italian Lega2 (second division). He recorded 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. His team was defeated 67-60. Barlos has reliable stats this season: 10.1ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.7spg. He used to play for the Greek national team seven years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Greek passport but never been selected to any of Greek national teams:

   #1. Pat Calathes (208-G/F-85, college: St.Joseph's, currently plays in Israel), who plays in the Israeli Winner League could not help Maccabi Haifa (6-3) in their last game. Despite Calathes' very good performance Maccabi Haifa lost 92-103 on the road to the lower-ranked (#6) Hapoel J-M. He scored 19 points, had 9 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 36 minutes. It was Maccabi Haifa's first loss after four consecutive victories. Calathes is ranked fourth on the list of the best rebounders in the league with 9.3rpg. He also averaged so far 13.1ppg, 2.6apg and 1.1spg in the nine games he played so far. Calathes is a naturalized American. He used to play for Costa Cafe Marousi in Greek league.

   #2. Dan Mavraides (193-G-88, college: Princeton, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian SerieA was not able to help Juvecaserta (5-6) in their last game. Despite Mavraides' good performance Juvecaserta lost 74-82 in Brindisi to the higher-ranked (#7) Enel. He was the second best scorer with 12 points in 25 minutes. It was his first game for Juvecaserta this season. Mavraides is a naturalized American. He used to play for Aris Thessaloniki in Greek league.

   #3. Sten-Timmu Sokk (181-PG-89, currently plays in Georgia) contributed to Olimpi's victory against the closely-ranked MIA (6-1) 71-62 in a derby game in the Georgian Superleague last Saturday. He scored 9 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 8 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Olimpi Tbilisi (6-1) is placed second in the Superleague. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Sokk is currently second on the league's list of best passers. His overall stats this season are: 8.9ppg, 3.6rpg, 7.0apg and 1.3spg. Sokk has a dual citizenship: Greek and Estonian.

   #4. Corey Petros (208-F/C-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) led Oakland to a victory against the Rochester College (6-1) 88-77 in the NCAA on Thursday night. He recorded 23 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 30 minutes. The Oakland University has conference record this season. This year Petros' overall stats are: 8.9ppg, 3.6rpg, 7.0apg and 1.3spg in the seven games. He is a naturalized American. Apparently Petros has never played in Greece.

   #5. Giannis Demertzis (194-PG-83, currently plays in EuroChallenge) was not able to secure a victory for Keravnos (2-4) in their game against Ploiesti (1-5) in the EuroChallenge. Demertzis scored 9 points and added 4 passes in 22 minutes. But Keravnos was edged 90-87 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked (#4) Ploiesti. It was Keravnos' third consecutive loss in a row. The Regular Season already ended in the EuroChallenge. This year Demertzis' overall stats are: 2.7ppg, 1.3rpg, 4.0apg and 1.2spg in the six games.

   #6. Nicholas Livas (198-G-87, college: Ill.-Springfield, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a BG Goettingen's victory against the ninth-ranked Finke Baskets 85-80 in the German ProA (second division) on Saturday night. He recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds. Livas also added 3 assists. Livas belongs to league's best rebounders and is ranked #2. This season he has very good stats: 10.3ppg, 8.6rpg, 2.8apg and 1.3spg. Livas is a naturalized American. Apparently he has never played in Greece.

   #7. Experienced Alexey Savrasenko (215-C-79, currently plays in Eurocup) couldn't help Lokomotiv in their game against BC Donetsk in the Eurocup. Savrasenko cannot count Wednesday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 22 minutes. His team lost 64-71. This year Savrasenko's overall stats are: 1.7ppg and 1.8rpg in the six games. He is another player who holds two passports: Greek and Russian.

   #8. Mannos Nakos (179-PG-88, currently plays in Sweden) helped Uppsala Basket win their game against the sixth-ranked Sodertalje Kings 81-76 in the Swedish Basketligan last Friday. Nakos recorded 11 points. His overall stats this season are: 6.1ppg and 1.8apg. Nakos has both Greek and Swedish nationalities.

   #9. Triantafillos Tzakopoulos (187-G-85, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Duesseldorf Baskets in their game against Kirchheim Knights in the German ProA (second division). He recorded 9 points and added 6 assists. His team was defeated 78-70. Tzakopoulos' total stats this season are: 6.1ppg, 1.5rpg and 3.2apg. He also holds two passports: Greek and Australian.

   #10. Peter Pappageorge (183-G, currently studies in the States), who plays in the NCAA couldn't help the Long Beach St. in their last game. Despite Pappageorge's good performance the Long Beach St. was crushed 84-53 in Syracuse, NY by the Syracuse University. He recorded 11 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists in 39 minutes. Pappageorge averaged so far 10.1ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.7spg in the nine games. He is a naturalized American. Apparently Pappageorge has never played in Greece.

AEK Athens (A1) released 29-year old American swingman Malik Hairston (198-100kg-87, college: Oregon). Hairston played there last season where in 31 A1 games he had 8.7ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.8apg.
