We bring you last week's top performances from Mexicans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

Gustavo Ayon
Gustavo Ayon
#1. This week's number one is an international power forward Gustavo Ayon (209-85, agency: Duran International, college: San Jose St., currently plays in NBA). He contributed to an Orlando Magic's victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves (13-11) 102-93 in the NBA in Monday night's game. Ayon scored 9 points in 18 minutes on the court. The Orlando Magic has 12-13 record this season. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Ayon's first year with the team. This season he averages: 3.0ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.5apg and FT: 57.1% in the 23 games he played so far. Ayon is currently a member of the Mexican senior national team.

Earl Watson
Earl Watson
#2. Second place goes to an experienced former international point guard Earl Watson (185-79, agency: Priority Sports, college: UCLA, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Utah Jazz (14-13) to beat the Indiana Pacers (14-12). Watson did not impress in that game on Wednesday. He scored only 2 points and added 4 passes. The Utah Jazz was badly defeated 104-84 on the road by the Indiana Pacers. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Watson's overall stats this year are: 2.2ppg, 1.5rpg, 3.8apg, 2FGP: 37.5% and FT: 66.7%. He is a naturalized American. Watson played for the Mexican national team in 2007. Strangely he has never played in Mexico.

Romel Beck
Romel Beck
#3. The Mexican player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman Romel Beck (201-82, agency: Interperformances, college: UNLV, currently plays in Israel), who plays in the Israeli Winner League. Beck was not able to help Bnei Hasharon (3-6) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Bnei Hasharon was crushed 94-70 in Ashkelon by the higher-ranked (#7) Ironi. Beck was the top scorer with 17 points. He also added 4 rebounds in 30 minutes. It's Beck's first season with the team. Beck is currently third on the list of top scorers with 18.0ppg. This year his other stats are: 3.3rpg, 1.7apg, 2FGP: 62.0%(49-79), 3FGP: 24.0% and FT: 82.4% in the nine games. Beck is a naturalized American. He is also a member of the Mexican senior national team. Beck used to play for Correcaminos Victoria in Mexican league.

Raul Delgado
Raul Delgado
#4. Guard Raul Delgado (188-91, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help Brigham Young University to win against the Eastern New Mexico University (13-13) crushing them 95-62 in the NCAA on Tuesday night. Delgado recorded only 4 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. The Brigham Young University has conference record this season. Delgado's overall stats this year are: 5.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 5.0apg and 1.3spg. He used to play for the Mexican university national team last year.

The list of other players, who all have Mexican passport but never been selected to any of Mexican national teams:

#1. Mark Sanchez (201-F-87, agency: Court Side, college: Boise St., currently plays in Austria) led Kapfenberg Bulls to a victory over the eighth-ranked UBSC Graz (4-7) 91-76 in the Austrian A Bundesliga in Saturday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Sanchez scored 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. ECE Bulls Kapfenberg (8-3) is placed second in the A Bundesliga. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Sanchez is ranked fifth on the list of the best rebounders in the league. He has very reliable stats this season: 14.9ppg, 7.5rpg and 2.5apg. Sanchez is a naturalized American. He used to play for Lobos Grises de la UAD Durango in Mexican league.

#2. Diego Gonzalez (175-PG-84, currently plays in Uruguay), who plays in the Uruguayan LUB could not help Aguada to beat Defensor (13-13). Gonzalez did not have that impressive stats last Saturday. He scored only 3 points and added 7 assists in 36 minutes. The first-placed Aguada lost 85-89 on the road to the much lower-ranked (#9) Defensor in the Capital group. This year Gonzalez's overall stats are: 5.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 5.0apg and 1.3spg in the 25 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Mexican and Uruguayan.

#3. Jaime Serna (205-F-89, college: UCSB, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help CB Clavijo (5-6) in their game against Ford Burgos (9-2) in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Serna scored 5 points in 9 minutes. CB Clavijo was edged 83-82 on the opponent's court by the second-ranked Ford_Burgos. This year Serna's overall stats are: 4.3ppg and 3.6rpg in the 10 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Mexican and Spanish.

#4. Juan Anderson (198-F-93, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help Marquette University to win against the Savannah State University (0-1) crushing them 71-51 in the NCAA last Saturday. Anderson recorded only 3 points. The Marquette University has conference record this season. Anderson's overall stats this year are: 4.3ppg and 3.6rpg. He is a naturalized American. Arkadikos tab Efthimios Tsakaleris - 20 hours ago

SEFA Arkadikos (A2) inked 27-year old power forward Efthimios Tsakaleris (207-89). He played most recently at A.G.O Rethymno Aegean in Greek A1 league. Tsakaleris managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). A1 was a little too high level for him, where in 22 games he averaged just 1.1ppg and 1.2rpg. A2 will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time. Tsakaleris also played that season for Bashkimi (SuperLeague) in Kosovo. In four games he had 7.3p...   [read more]
