International Forward Anna Spyridopoulou (184-F-88) had a great game in the last round for Proteas and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 19. The 28-year old forward had the game-high 21 points adding six rebounds and six assists for Proteas in her team's victory, helping them to crush Kronos AD (#11, 3-16) with 19-point margin 79-60. Proteas is placed at 3rd position in Greek A1. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Proteas will need more victories to improve their 12-6 record. In the team's last game Spyridopoulou had a remarkable five three-pointers out of 6 attempts. She has many years of experience at Proteas, through which she has constantly improved. Anna Spyridopoulou averages this season 11.2ppg and 5.3rpg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 26-year old American guard Miriam McKenzie (177-G-90) of Aris Thessal.. McKenzie impressed basketball fans with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as Aris Thessal. lost that game 73-82 to the higher-ranked Athinaikos (#2, 13-5). Aris Thessal. is still second from the bottom in the standings. 14 lost games are too many comparing to just five victories Aris Thessal. managed to get this year. McKenzie is a newcomer at Aris Thessal. and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.6ppg (#2). Her other stats are also decent: 11.5rpg and 3.2apg.
The third best performed player last round was Fani Tzarou (178-F-95) of Terpsithea (#12). Tzarou showcased her all-around game by recording 23 points, seventeen rebounds (!!!) and six assists in the last round. Despite Tzarou's great performance Terpsithea lost 65-97 to the higher-ranked Niki Lefkadas (#6, 11-8). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. Terpsithea can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 1-18 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Tzarou she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Tzarou has a very solid season. In 17 games in Greece she scored 9.6ppg.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Stephany Skrba (188-F-87) of Proteas - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists 5. Adamantia Psychogyiou (175-G-89) of Niki Lefkadas - 15 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists 6. Keani Albanez (178-G) of Athinaikos - 26 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Sheila Boykin (188-F) of Panathlitikos - 14 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists 8. Victoria-Konstantina Gounari (172-G-95) of Niki Lefkadas - 17 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists 9. Brittni Montgomery (190-F-92) of Aris Thessal. - 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists 10. Lykendra Johnson (185-F-89) of Olympiacos - 14 points and 14 rebounds
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
