The most exciting game of round 12 in the A1 took place in Glyfada. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Kronos AD (5-7) to sixth ranked Ikaros Kalitheas (6-6) 72-70 in the game for the fifth place. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Kronos AD. Ikaros Kalitheas forced 19 Kronos AD turnovers. The best player for the winners was American center Jasmine Erving (187-90, college: CS Northridge) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks. The former international guard Theoni Tzegianaki (162-85) chipped in 13 points and 8 assists. Ikaros Kalitheas' coach Giorgos Leivadis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Jasmine Smith (172, college: St.Mary's, CA) who recorded 30 points and 5 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Ikaros Kalitheas moved-up to fifth place. Kronos AD at the other side dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Ikaros Kalitheas are looking forward to face league's second-placed Athinaikos in Athens in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Kronos AD will play at home against PAOK (#4) in Thessaloniki and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Leader Panathinaikos delivered the eleventh victory. This time they beat 7th ranked Aris (5-7) 72-60 in Athens. It was a good game for American power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) who led her team to a victory with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Dimitra Kalentzou contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Guard Niki Hatzakou (175-82) replied with 24 points and 5 assists for Aris. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panathinaikos (11-1) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position, which they share with Athinaikos and AO Ellinikou. Aris lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with seven games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Panathinaikos will play against bottom-ranked GAC Eunikos (#12) in Liosa in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Aris will play at home against Asteras (#6) in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

GAC Eunikos will play against the league's leader Panathinaikos (#1) in Athens and hopes to get finally their first victory.

AO Ellinikou's next round opponent will be Olympiakos (#10) in Athens and are hoping to win another game. Asteras will play on the road against Aris (#9) in Thessaloniki.

In the last game of round 12 Terpsithea defeated Olympiakos in Glyfadas 73-67.



Panionios - Athinaikos 55-78

Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Athinaikos (#3) and Panionios (#11). Panionios was smashed at home by 23 points 55-78. The game without a history. Athinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Panionios only scored two points from the stripe. Athinaikos forced 26 Panionios turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Afroditi Kosma (187-83) who scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Zoi Kechagia (170-79) chipped in 13 points and 5 assists. Five Athinaikos players scored in double figures. Athinaikos' coach felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. PAOK - GAC Eunikos 86-39

Bottom-ranked GAC Eunikos (0-12) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 86-39 loss to fourth ranked PAOK (9-3) in Thessaloniki on Sunday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to GAC Eunikos' 32 and had 27 for 42 from the free-throw line, while GAC Eunikos only scored four points from the stripe. PAOK forced 32 GAC Eunikos turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Caila Desroches (193, college: Chicago St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and the former international forward Dimitra Giannopoulou (184-84) who added 13 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Olympiakos - Terpsithea 67-73

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Olympiakos' (3-9) home loss to ninth ranked Terpsithea (5-7) 67-73 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was swingman Natali Plumbi (168-81) who scored 19 points and 6 assists. Guard Alexia Botsari (175-83) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Five Terpsithea players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Niki Zerva (183-79) who recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points and 19 rebounds and guard Rafaela Soultani (172-91) added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Terpsithea moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Olympiakos lost third consecutive game. Olympiakos at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the tenth position with nine games lost. Terpsithea will face Panionios (#11) in Athens in the next round where they are favorite. Olympiakos will play on the road against AO Ellinikou.

The game without a history. AO Ellinikou led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Asteras to just 7 points in third quarter. AO Ellinikou dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Asteras' 20. They outrebounded Asteras 45-16 including a 34-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by guard Anthoula Balta (178-87) who scored that evening 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward Breanna Brock (187-90, college: Missouri) supported her with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Four AO Ellinikou players scored in double figures. Even 16 points and 6 rebounds by forward Sotiria Marinou (173) did not help to save the game for Asteras. PAOK Thessalonikis (A1) inked 25-year old American center Ondrea Shaw (193-91, college: E.Carolina). She played in the summer at SC Rip in Australian QBL. In 17 games she recorded 6.9ppg, 8.8rpg, 1.0apg and 2.6bpg. Among other achievements Shaw's team made it to the AAC Tournament Semifinals in 2015.
