Here is the weekly review of the top performing Greek players, who play currently abroad.


Zoi Dimitrakou

   #1. This week's number one is former international forward Zoi Dimitrakou (188-87, agency: Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Eurocup), who plays in Turkey. She could not help Kayseri (3-1) in their last game. Despite Dimitrakou's very good performance the first-placed Kayseri lost in an overtime 64-77 on the road to the leading Dynamo Kursk in the group E of Eurocup. She was the top scorer with 21 points. Dimitrakou also added 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 35 minutes on the court. It's Dimitrakou's first season with the team. She has relatively good stats this year: 12.6ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.6apg, 2FGP: 51.2% and FT: 56.3% in the five games she played so far. Dimitrakou played for the Greek senior national team four years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced international forward Evanthia Maltsi (180-78, also represented by Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Eurocup) is a teammate of previously mentioned Zoi Dimitrakou and both played together in the last Eurocup game. Maltsi, who plays in Turkey. She was not able to help Kayseri (3-1) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Maltsi's good performance Kayseri was defeated in an overtime 77-64 in Kursk by the leading Dynamo in the group E of Eurocup. She scored 12 points and had 3 steals. Maltsi is ranked second on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of most steals (second place). She has individually a very good season with high stats. Maltsi averages: 20.4ppg, 2.9rpg, 2.5apg, 2.8spg, 2FGP: 43.2%, 3FGP: 48.0%(24-50) and FT: 95.5%(21-22). She is in the roster of the Greek senior national team.

   #3. The Greek player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Katerina Sotiriou (186-84, agency: FCM, currently plays in Spain). Sotiriou contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Socinsa Bembibre (1-12) crushing them 66-39 in the Spanish LFB on Saturday night. She scored 6 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 21 minutes. UNB Obenasa Navarra Pamplona (7-6) is placed fourth in the LFB. This year Sotiriou's overall stats are: 7.1ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.4apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 32.9%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 75.0% in the 13 games. She is also a member of the Greek senior national team.

   #4. Swingman Olga Chatzinikolaou (181-81, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Caja Rural (6-7) in their game against Perfumerias Avenida (10-2) in the Spanish LFB. She scored 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 27 minutes. Caja Rural was crushed 76-53 in Salamanca by the second-ranked Perfumerias Avenida. It was Caja Rural's third consecutive loss in a row. This year Chatzinikolaou's total stats are: 8.3ppg, 5.8rpg, 2.2apg and 1.4spg in the 13 games. She is also Greek national team player.

Former international forward Anna Spyridopoulou (184-88, currently plays in Sweden) contributed to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked Sallen (7-12) 63-44 in the Swedish Damligan on Wednesday night. Spyridopoulou recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Solna Vikings (12-7) is placed fourth in the Damligan. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Spyridopoulou has averaged so far 8.5ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.9apg and 1.4spg. She used to play for the Greek national team two years ago.

Power forward Peli Papamichail (189-86, another player represented by Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Italy) contributed to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Viterbo (5-10) crushing them 86-40 in the Italian A2 (12th division) in Sunday night's game. Papamichail scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only 14 minutes. Passalacqua Spedizioni Ragusa (16-1) is placed first in South group. Her team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. This year Papamichail has relatively solid stats: 12.8ppg, 8.3rpg and 1.2spg in the 17 games. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Greek National Team roster.

   #7. Former U20 international center Katerina Glyniadaki (196-86, college: Cal-Riverside, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help C.U.S. Chieti (4-8) in their game against Familia Schio (11-1) in the Italian A1. Glyniadaki scored 6 points. It was his first game for C.U.S. Chieti this season. C.U.S. Chieti was crushed 76-49 in Schio by the leading Familia. Glyniadaki used to play for the Greek U20 national team seven years ago.

   #8. Guard Nafsika Stavridou (182-86, currently plays in Sweden) couldn't help Northland (14-4) in their game against Norrkoping Dolphins (14-8) in the Swedish Damligan. She cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Stavridou scored only 1 points in 17 minutes. Northland was crushed 82-55 in Norrkoping by the lower-ranked (#6) Dolphins. They ended the series of eleven consecutive victories. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Stavridou has averaged so far 7.3ppg, 2.0rpg, 2.0apg and 1.5spg in the four games. She plays currently for the Greek national team.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Greek passport:

   #1. Experienced Vicky Volonaki (179-F-80, currently plays in Sweden) was the major contributor in a Solna Vikings' victory against the eighth-ranked Sallen (7-12) 63-44 in the Swedish Damligan in Wednesday night's game. Volonaki recorded 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Solna Vikings (12-7) is placed fourth in the Damligan. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Volonaki's total stats this season are: 9.5ppg, 3.3rpg, 2.7apg and 1.4spg.

Canadian-Serbian Forward Stephany Skrba (188-F-87) had a great game in the last round for Proteas, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9. The 29-year old player had a double-double of 17 points and 24 rebounds, while her team edged out Niki Lefkadas (#8, 4-5) 71-67. Proteas is placed at 4th position in Greek A1. The most interesting game of round 9 in the A1 was a home defeat of 7th ranked PAOK (4-5) by sixth ranked Dafni Agioy (5-4) who outscored them by 16 points 69-53. Dafni Agioy made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Dafni Agioy outrebounded PAOK 35-18 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds.
