Greek A1 round 15 best performance: Diana Delva - Feb 4, 2013

Diana Delva
American power forward Diana Delva (188-F/C-88) had a very impressive game in the last round for top-ranked Panathinaikos, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 15.
The 24-year old player had a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds, while her team beat Kronos AD (#6, 7-8) 60-52. It allowed Panathinaikos to consolidate first place in the Greek A1. Panathinaikos has a very good season and are considered to have a run for the championship title. They improved their record to 14-1. It's Delva's second year at Panathinaikos and it's hard to imagine this team without her. Former University of Hartford star has very solid stats this year. Delva is in league's top in points (2nd best: 19.3ppg), rebounds (5th best: 10.1rpg) and averages impressive 65.5% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 25-year old Theodora Panteli (183-F-87) of Asteras. Panteli had a very good evening with a double-double of 18 points and 17 rebounds. Bad luck as Asteras lost that game 64-71 to slightly lower-ranked Olympiakos (#10, 4-11). Asteras is still in a red zone at 8th spot in the standings. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 5-10 record. Panteli is a newcomer at Asteras and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

Third on the list of top players last round was former international forward Afroditi Kosma (187-F/C-83) of league's second-best Athinaikos. Kosma scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds. She was a key player of Athinaikos, leading her team to a 72-31 easy win against GAC Eunikos (#12, 0-15). Many experts and fans count Athinaikos as a contender for championship title. Another victory and another confirmation that they may be right. Just look at their record: 14 victories and only one lost games.. Kosma has a great season in Greece. After 15 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.9ppg (6th best) and rebounds with 9.1rpg (8th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Maria Roza Boni (180-G-86) of AO Ellinikou - 10 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists
5. Dimitra Chavale) of Olympiakos - 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists
6. Jasmine Erving (187-C-90) of Ikaros Kalitheas - 16 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Zafiria Giabani (185-F-92) of Panionios - 13 points and 10 rebounds
8. Niki Zerva (183-F-79) of Olympiakos - 19 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Caila Desroches (193-C) of PAOK - 16 points and 5 rebounds
10. Tatiana Zotova (196-F-70) of Athinaikos - 10 points and 8 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

A1 Round 7: Panathinaikos beat Dafni Agioy in a derby game - 3 days ago

The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with derby games, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory. The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Panathinaikos (#2) and Dafni Agioy (#7). Panathinaikos (5-2) crushed visiting Dafni Agioy (3-4) by 22 points 64-42. Artemis Spanou selected the top Greek playing abroad in last week's games - 7 days ago

We bring you last week's top performances from Greeks who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international forward Artemis Spanou (188-93). She could not help one of league's weakest teams Argon Uni Girona (9-1) in their last game. Despite Spanou's good performance Argon Uni Girona lost 76-85 on the road to the leading Perfumerias Avenida.    [read more]
