Leader Olympiacos delivered the fifteenth win on Saturday night. This time they crushed 8th ranked Ikaros (6-10) 85-63 in Athens. The game was mostly controlled by Olympiacos. Ikaros managed to win fourth quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. International guard Konstantinos Sloukas (197-90) fired 10 points and 5 assists for the winners. International guard Vassilis Spanoulis (193-82, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 10 points and 6 assists. Serbian center Mladen Pantic (209-82, agency: Alti Sport) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first position with 15-1 record. Ikaros lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Kolossos. Olympiacos are looking forward to face KAOD (#12) in Dramas in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Ikaros will play on the road against the league's second-placed Panathinaikos (#2) in Athens and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
The game in Rethymno supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Panathinaikos (13-3) played at the court of 5th ranked AGOR (10-6). Panathinaikos smashed AGOR 85-58. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of AGOR. Worth to mention a great performance of Gabonese forward Stephane Lasme (203-82, college: Massachusetts) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 9 rebounds. Sofoklis Schortsanitis contributed with 17 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. Serbian guard Uros Duvnjak (190-86, agency: Beo Basket) replied with 10 points for AGOR. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panathinaikos maintains second position with 13-3 record having just two points less than leader Olympiacos, which they share with Panionios. AGOR at the other side keeps the fifth place with six games lost. Panathinaikos will play against Ikaros (#8) in Kalitheas in the next round where they are favorite. AGOR will play at home against Ilysiakos in Athens and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Athens between Aris and Ilysiakos. Seventh ranked Aris (7-9) got a very close victory on the road over 12th ranked Ilysiakos (5-11). Aris managed to escape with a 2-point win 64-62 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Worth to mention a great performance of Michalis Pelekanos who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side Terrell Stoglin responded with 29 points and 7 rebounds (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Aris maintains seventh position with 7-9 record. Loser Ilysiakos dropped to the tenth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Peristeri GS and KAOD. Aris will meet at home bottom-ranked Panelefsiniakos (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ilysiakos will play against AGOR (#5) in Rethymno and hope to secure a win.
