There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games.

The most exciting game of round 16 in the A1 took place in Kronos. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of much higher ranked Athinaikos (14-2) to sixth ranked Kronos AD (8-8) 66-64 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Athinaikos. Athinaikos was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. The former international power forward Nena Nikolaidou (190-79) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American guard Jasmine Smith (172, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Lolita Lymoura (180-85, agency: LBM Management) produced 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for lost side. Kronos AD moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ikaros Kalitheas and Aris. Defending champion Athinaikos keeps the second position with two games lost. They share it with AO Ellinikou. Kronos AD is looking forward to face Terpsithea (#9) in Glyfadas in the next round. Athinaikos' supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Panathinaikos.
Important game to mention about took place in Glyfada. Seventh ranked Ikaros Kalitheas (8-8) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Aris (8-8) 61-59 in the game for the fifth place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Aris. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Jasmine Erving (187-90, college: CS Northridge) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. Theoni Tzegianaki contributed with 16 points and 4 assists for the winners. The former international power forward Evangelia Kotopodi (188-87) replied with 18 points and 9 rebounds for Aris. Ikaros Kalitheas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Aris and Kronos AD. Ikaros Kalitheas will play against Asteras (#8) in Athens in the next round. Aris' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Thessaloniki PAOK.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked AO Ellinikou (14-2) against fourth ranked PAOK (11-5) on Sunday night. Visiting AO Ellinikou was defeated by PAOK in a tough game in Thessaloniki 50-55. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of AO Ellinikou. Worth to mention a great performance of Caila Desroches who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the losing side Anthoula Balta responded with 7 points and 6 assists. PAOK maintains fourth position with 11-5 record. Newly promoted AO Ellinikou keeps the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Athinaikos. PAOK's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Thessaloniki to the arena Aris.
Leader Panathinaikos delivered the fifteenth victory. This time they crushed 10th ranked Olympiakos (4-12) 80-58 in Athens. The winners were led by Diana Delva who had that evening a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field). Panathinaikos' coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panathinaikos (15-1) have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Newly promoted Olympiakos keeps the tenth place with 12 games lost. Panathinaikos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Athinaikos.
Bottom-ranked GAC Eunikos (0-16) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 51-42 loss to ninth ranked Terpsithea (6-10) in Liosa on Saturday evening. Dyiota Dragonea fired 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Terpsithea's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Terpsithea moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Asteras. GAC Eunikos at the other side still closes the standings. Terpsithea will face higher ranked Kronos AD (#7) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. GAC Eunikos will play against the league's second-placed AO Ellinikou (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.

In the last game of round 16 Asteras defeated Panionios in Athens 61-47.



Panionios - Asteras 47-61

There was no surprise in Athens where 11th ranked Panionios (2-14) was defeated by ninth ranked Asteras (6-10) 61-47 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 61-47. Asteras dominated on the defensive end, holding Panionios to just 6 points in second quarter. They also forced 20 Panionios turnovers. Forward Theodora Panteli (183-87, college: Binghamton) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. American forward Katerina Deli (168, college: Scranton) chipped in 7 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Sonia Dafkou (188-71) produced 12 points and 7 rebounds and forward Zafiria Giabani (185-92) added 6 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. Asteras moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Terpsithea. Panionios lost third consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Asteras will face higher ranked Ikaros Kalitheas (#6) in Glyfada in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Panionios' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Olympiakos.

PAOK - AO Ellinikou 55-50

Very important is a road loss of second ranked AO Ellinikou (14-2) against fourth ranked PAOK (11-5) on Sunday night. Visiting AO Ellinikou was defeated by PAOK in a tough game in Thessaloniki 50-55. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of AO Ellinikou. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 15-11. But AO Ellinikou won second period 16-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. PAOK forced 20 AO Ellinikou turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Caila Desroches (193, college: Chicago St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks and swingman Stavroula Spanidou (180-84) who added 5 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side guard Anthoula Balta (178-87) responded with 7 points and 6 assists and American forward Breanna Brock (187-90, college: Missouri) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. They outrebounded Olympiakos 45-22 including a 32-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by American power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) and international forward Ioanna Diela (175-90) supported her with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. PAOK Thessalonikis (A1) inked 25-year old American center Ondrea Shaw (193-91, college: E.Carolina). She played in the summer at SC Rip in Australian QBL. In 17 games she recorded 6.9ppg, 8.8rpg, 1.0apg and 2.6bpg. Among other achievements Shaw's team made it to the AAC Tournament Semifinals in 2015.
